Operation CARE Operation C.A.R.E. [Carolina Animal Rescue Effort] We are a 501c3 non-profit, all volunteer animal welfare organization based in Rock Hill, SC. Edmund Burke

Operation C.A.R.E. (Carolina Animal Rescue Effort) is a Rock Hill, SC non-profit, NO KILL, 501c3 all volunteer animal welfare organization saving animals in the Carolinas since 1990. Our Rescue-Adoption Program focuses primarily on the rescue of animals from high kill rural area shelters. However, we do occasionally attempt to help good Samaritans in the community who have found homeless or abando

ned animals who are destined for shelters. Donations make it possible for us to continue our efforts. We are solely supported by donations and receive no other funding. Animals up for adoption through Operation C.A.R.E. have been fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Dogs have been tested for heartworms and cats have been tested for FeLV and FIV. These animals are cared for in foster homes where their personality and behavior can be assessed for the most appropriate permanent home. Mission
Our mission is to minimize the need for euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets in local Carolina shelters by providing a low-cost spay/neuter option to people in the community and by providing temporary care for homeless animals until they can be placed in quality permanent homes. "Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing
because he could only do a little."

Warning: This is a tough one.

Yesterday, we received a call from a previous adopter asking for our help. At the care center where she works, the found a kitten. The kitten is guessed to be about 5 weeks old. The story that comes with this rescue will make you feel heart break, rage, and just plain confusion on how people can be so awful.

The janitor was taking the trash out to the trash cans. He heard something meowing. When he started opening trash cans looking for the kitten, he was startled by what he saw. When he opened the trash can where the meow was coming from the loudest, he didn’t see a live kitten. On top of trash in the trash can was dismembered body parts of the kitten’s siblings. He had to dig through the others to find the live kitten that was hiding below. I specifically asked the finder if the state of the other kittens was from decomposition, animal, or man made. She was very certain it was from a human. There is so much evil in this world, it’s scary to think about. This little baby that survived ( how, we don’t know) was on its way to a slow death unfortunately.
It was not only covered in blood from the others and had SO many fleas. It also had maggots on its rear and fly eggs already stuck in its coat on the back. Upon arrival,
we immediately gave it a capstar for the fleas and maggots. We picked as many maggots as we could off that were on the outside.
The capstar helps kill maggots that may have went inside his body. Then into the bath he went. Poor baby was struggling hard!

I am happy to report that as last night and
this morning, he’s doing so much better. He is a little spicy ( well as spicy as a 1 pound kitten can be). We don’t believe his spice because after a few minutes he relaxes and will purr. It’s hard to imagine what this poor baby has seen from humans in his short little life so far.
He’s got a little road to recovery but he will only continue to get stronger! He’s also being treated for a URI.

He needs a name! Comment below with name suggestions!

✨Drop your story below with pictures of your sweet baby (or babies) that you have adopted from us! ✨

We as a group survive and continue to do what we can to help animals from
donations and adoption donations. There is so much that happens behind the scenes we don’t post about because we are exhausted and don’t think about it. Rescue is very tiring especially when you have a sanctuary and are no kill. We have so many seniors that require daily medicine so our mornings and evenings are spent hanging out pill pockets and turkey slices! We have some boujee (or just s
skeptical) dogs!

One thing that makes our hearts happy is to hear about all the sweet animals that we’ve been able to put in wonderful homes! Whether it was 20 years ago or 2 months ago, tell us about it! We love it!

If you feel like you would like to send a donation in honor of the pets you adopted from us, see below.

🔹We aren’t just talking about dogs or cats. If you have adopted a horse, rabbit, guinea pig, or gerbil from us, show us! 🔹

**These handsome boys need a fur-ever home!**

Knight (black) and Weasley (orange & white) have been waiting MONTHS, in our adoption room at PetSmart in Rock Hill. They are both such affectionate, friendly, playful, loving, and confident boys! They would fill a home with joy and snuggles!

During their lengthy stay, they have become BFFs! They are not bonded, and can be adopted separately, but if you are interested in two, we are sure they would love to be adopted together! They both are good with other cats. Not sure about dogs.

Knight has a secret admirer, that cannot adopt him, but is willing to donate his adoption fee, for the right home.

These boys are ready to start their new life and are just waiting on someone to give them a chance!

Knight is around 3, and Weasley’s around 1. They are both neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations and microchipped

Meet King! His mother and siblings were dumped at the rescue gate. They were all severely starved and in rough shape! King is definitely not only gorgeous but such a sweet baby! His mother is a purebred Great Pyrenees and we don’t know what his father is but we have a feeling he was a shepherd mix. His mother has the sweetest and most laid back personality, he def. Takes after his momma! King is 3 years old. He is house trained, crate trained, and rides great in the car. King adores children, other dogs, all people, and is fine with cats. As you can see in the picture, he’s a little scared of them! haha. Please email [email protected] for an adoption application. Or complete the adoption application listed below.

Let’s take a minute to talk about Chrysanthemum (aka Chrissy).

We had someone reach out from a shelter about this sweet girl. She was
emaciated and so very weak. She could
hardly stand for more than a minute and didn’t want to walk much. She had to
be put on a re-feeding program due to
her body condition. Luckily, aside from a couple lacerations and some really awful pressure sores…she’s ok! There was no organ damage or failure happening! She’s just a baby. Chrissy is only around 12 weeks old. She is only just a baby so new to this world and has already seen horrid abuse. This precious little soul is still just the sweetest girl with nothing but tiny little tail wags, big eyes, and precious kisses. We think due to her condition that she spent A LOT of time in a crate. A LOT of time where she sat hungry, in nasty condition, and hurting. Just begging for something better. It doesn’t seem like a good thing but whoever had her decided they didn’t want her but obviously didn’t want anyone to see her condition so they dumped her on the side of the road. That was literally the best thing that could have happened for her!! A good samaritan found her and turned her into the shelter. Her new life starts now! She’s on the road to recovery and finally acting like a normal puppy! She’s on bath number 3 of being on the road to not smelling so bad, bless her heart. She’s has a horrible urine smell to her. However, she has zero care and demands us to suck it up and give her the cuddles she demands so we do! We will
be keeping everyone posted on this sweet girls progress! If anyone would like to donate towards her care or to help us keep savings babies like Chrissy who deserve a second chance, you can donate below. Donations are what keeps us going!
