Operation C.A.R.E. (Carolina Animal Rescue Effort) is a Rock Hill, SC non-profit, NO KILL, 501c3 all volunteer animal welfare organization saving animals in the Carolinas since 1990. Our Rescue-Adoption Program focuses primarily on the rescue of animals from high kill rural area shelters. However, we do occasionally attempt to help good Samaritans in the community who have found homeless or abando

ned animals who are destined for shelters. Donations make it possible for us to continue our efforts. We are solely supported by donations and receive no other funding. Animals up for adoption through Operation C.A.R.E. have been fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Dogs have been tested for heartworms and cats have been tested for FeLV and FIV. These animals are cared for in foster homes where their personality and behavior can be assessed for the most appropriate permanent home. Mission
Our mission is to minimize the need for euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets in local Carolina shelters by providing a low-cost spay/neuter option to people in the community and by providing temporary care for homeless animals until they can be placed in quality permanent homes. The truth of the matter is, We get calls everyday and request for help. It’s so hard to turn them down but we have to get our vet bills down.

So we are asking for your help! We need donations to help pay down our vet bills.
It’s been a rough summer and a busy one at that! We’ve taken in medical cases and had a lot of our senior sanctuary dogs, cats, and horses with normal age related problems. Adoptions help cover some of the cost but not all of it. Being a sanctuary, we don’t just have medical/adoption ready cost but we have animals that we choose to stand behind for their entire lives cost. It’s our cost and we accept that but without you guys it would be a big struggle to do what we are able to do for these animals!

Oh sweet little Rico!

He is a cocker spaniel mix. We don’t know what he’s mixed with but it’s definitely bigger than a cocker. He’s about 7-8 months now and is just ADORABLE! Rico is almost house trained and was learning to use a bell. He hasn’t decided if he likes that yet or not. Rico is crate trained and walks on a leash. We guess he will be about 40ish pounds but it’s just a guess. Rico is just your normal sweet and happy go lucky puppy! Email [email protected] for more information.

Remember the young raccoon that we found in the middle of the road injured? Here he is! It’s been a road but after 6 weeks of cage rest and meds he is ready to be released!! We left him with a little stockpile of his favorites ( eggs, marshmallows, and blueberries) by the creek.

We normally only take one vacation a year as a family (my family and my parents). While we are on our annual trip, we get a call from a rescue we work with sometimes. There are 14 chihuahua mixes that are living in a storage pod. Obviously the first thing we thought about was the heat! Those things are like a hot box in the sun. There was no bedding or anything to soak up the urine. It was only a plastic covering. A lot of the dogs have raw and burned feet from the urine. They have only lived inside the house before being moved to the pod so they aren’t all developed correctly due to lack of proper nutrition, exercise, and sunlight. There was a lot of overgrown toenails. Multiple dogs have cherry eyes in one or both eyes that will have to be fixed when they have their spay/ neuter surgeries. All of the dogs range from 4 years to 7 weeks old. Most of the dogs are friendly but there are a few that are very timid. First thing on arriving to the rescue was everyone had to have baths because they were very stinky and sticky with urine and f***s. None of the dogs weigh over 15 pounds. They are all small.

This was a huge undertaking but we obviously couldn’t leave these poor babies. We are now reaching out for help! We need donations to help get everyone vetted and cherry eye surgeries completed.
