RRDA Rock River Development Authority The RRDA was established in September of 1984 as a group of local volunteers under the sponsorship of Blackhawk Hills Resource Conservation and Development.

The RRDA supports the local community in many ways. The most visible is the through annual cleanup events of the area's local waterways focus on bringing families together to get outside and give back to their communities. The IDNR supports the Canal and its "tow-path" with surfaces varying from lime-stone to aggregate. The all weather 29.2 mile "Feeder" section of the path is used for walking, jogging, biking, and cross country skiing; along with fishing and canoeing. This renewed resource is a focal point of local activities.

We would like to take a moment to highlight and congratulate one of our most dedicated long-term volunteers, Rick O’Neil. Rick has generously given his time to assisting us at our cleanup events, and he worked with his employer (the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division) to use their watercraft for these events. Rick will soon be retiring from IDNR after many years of hard work. Congratulations (Captain) Rick O’Neil! We will be sure to find room for you on a new boat for future events!

Despite the high water and breezy conditions, we had a great day at the 41st Annual Rock River Cleanup! Many thanks to IDNR staff for assisting us on a Saturday and Arthur’s Garden Deli for donating gift cards for the volunteers! Most importantly, thank you to the folks who volunteered their time to improve our river!

As we’re sure you are aware, we’ve had a lot of rain the past few days. As such, the water level on the Rock River has come up a bit and there is some debris floating around. We ask that you use extra caution navigating the river if you’re joining us tomorrow. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

FREE TO A GOOD HOME: one large picnic table. Perfect for summer night bbq’s. Currently located in the Rock River upstream a spell from Oppold Marina. Clean, one-owner item from a non-smoking pelican home. Available in a couple of weeks, must bring your own boat to haul. If interested, bring a boat to the RRDA Rock River Cleanup on June 13th from 7:00am to 11:00am. Join us for the cleanup and we will even help load it for you!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped with our annual Canal Cleanup today! A special thanks to Folsom's Bakery for donating the donuts for our volunteers! It was a great day and we were able to remove a lot of garbage!
