We invite you to join us in the Celebrate America โ Remember 9/11 event which will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Grandon Civic Center, Central Memorial Park 212 E. 4th St., Sterling, IL at 10 am. The event should last for approximately one hour to one & one half hours.
Our committee is composed of a dozen people who felt it important to show concern for and support of our country and to honor the memory of the lives lost due to the horrendous terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, NY City and also recognize all those brave men and women who worked tirelessly giving assistance in the days after. All those who serve, whether they are police, fire, EMT/EMS, veterans- active or inactive, health care and volunteers who daily take on the tasks of keeping all citizens safe, need our thanks and recognition for their tireless service. These groups from our county will be recognized.
Our program will tentatively include: welcome by Sterling Mayor Skip Lee, Rock Falls & Sterling American Legion Posts will post the colors, military branch songs & recognition of members, gun salute, speaker or speakers, recognition of all police, fire & EMS departments, American Legion posts and closing with retiring of colors.
All of us can tell you exactly what we were doing when we heard or saw the planes crash into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. Then it got even more unbelievable as the Pentagon was hit and an airliner over Shanksville, Pa was averted from its terrorists target by brave passengers. It is a day we were all astounded that such an act could be perpetrated on the US and we all remember with sorrow and pray it will never happen again. The American people came together that day and for many days after to mourn and assist others. Most importantly, people were proud to be Americans.
On this 20th anniversary, please join us to honor the brave men and women who serve or have served our community!
