Monroe County Executive Adam Bello held a Labor Appreciation event this evening. Members of Local 1071's executive board joined local labor leaders from around Monroe County at the event, where County Executive Bello expressed his gratitude for local labor, the contributions our collective efforts have in making Monroe County better, and the collaborative relationship between his office and local labor.

We look forward to continued success in making Monroe County better, together.

Today marks 25 years since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. Local 1071 President Matt Murphy was among the speakers today at the 9/11 First Responders Memorial dedication ceremony at Highland Park. This memorial will help to ensure that we always remember the 343 New York City firefighters that made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty that day, as well as the innocent civilians that lost their lives to this senseless act.

This week, our four principal officers were proud to represent Rochester at the 2026 IAFF Convention in Arlington, Texas, alongside more than 2,000 union leaders from across the country.

The convention brought leaders together to help shape the future of our union and the issues that matter to our members.

We are especially proud to congratulate former President Eddie Santiago on receiving the 2026 IAFF Local Leadership Award, recognizing his years of dedicated service and leadership.

Congratulations, Eddie! Well deserved!
