Sig Rho - University of Rochester

Sig Rho - University of Rochester Brotherhood Beyond All Barriers Since then, they have only flourished into a blossom that only magnifies their pillars.

The Kappa Chapter first began on December 10th, 2002 in the hands of four humble cobras with a vision of elevating the standards of other organizations on campus. Since the induction of their four founding fathers, they have expanded and shared the understanding and knowledge of their pillars with over 50 brothers. However, these are only first bricks of this fraternity at the University of Roches

ter to the finalized piece that they will never cease working to perfect. Emulating their pillars, Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity, Inc. at the University of Rochester has flourished as they have sought to diversify their campus, give back to the community, both on campus and in the surrounding areas, help those in need, donate to charitable causes, and raise up worthy young men to carry on and preserve that legacy. With one of the most diverse chapters, they have been able to practice our third pillar greatly in the remembrance of multiple cultures, backgrounds, and upbringings. From events on in*******al dating, “Jungle Fever,” to the Indian subcontinent with, “Mela,” through chatting with the elderly at the Rochester Presbyterian Home, and playing soccer with Burmese refugees, they keep all doors open and minds open to walk through them. Furthermore, the Kappa Chapter teams up with the city of Rochester in their staple community service event, “Be the Change Day,” in taking in groups of young boys and girls from less than fortunate areas and circumstances. Sponsoring a day of awareness, change, fun, food, and laughs, they bridge the gap between the university community and the greater area around them. The Kappa Chapter’s ability to see many different experiences, and celebrate that they all belong together in one harmony is their strongest point. While collaborating with fellow Greeks and campus neighbors, they have given back to society. “Roc around the Clock” was one of their events, cosponsored by Gamma Phi Beta sorority to raise money for both of their respective philanthropies. The results were outstanding and the support was never lacking. Their Halloween is spent bringing in children from dangerous areas and having them go trick-or-treating in their student housing facilities. It is because of this chapter’s high expectations and drive, that they have been able to receive prestigious awards such as “most valuable chapter.” The Kappa Chapter has become one of the most successful chapters in Sigma Beta Rho. They have made sure to continue following and passing down old traditions, as well as making changes to mold this fraternity for the better in the years to come.
