Our first May event will be held at the Plumb Library on May 9, 2026, 12 – 1:30. Please contact the library to sign up. This will be in place of a monthly Wednesday meeting. Collaboration is the watchword for many of our 2026 events honoring the 250th anniversary of our country. The library has generously offered both space and funding support for a couple of speakers.

Our May 9th speaker is Robert Barbosa, author of "Patriots of the South Coast". I've read it and am interested in hearing him speak as he has a wealth of knowledge of Revolutionary War battles taking place on the sea as well as land.

We will be providing refreshments and will also have a handout concerning our next event.

On May 30th from 10:00-2:00, we will be holding a Red, White & Blue Bake Sale at the Rochester Land Trust Pony Pasture (hoping to reprise last year's success) on Mattapoisett, Rd. While (fingers crossed) there are no pressing museum issues, the very cold weather means that the cost of oil combined with the cost of insurance have depleted our checking account. Whenever we have a cash shortage, we try to bake our way to solvency.

So, we're asking members to help out by coming to buy, baking or if it's easier, dropping off a donation. We will need bake goods, and we've found the big sellers are pies, cakes, breads, muffins and as always cookies, brownies and other squares. Cupcakes for some reason are a non-starter. If possible, items should be wrapped or in a container or baggie. We can help with that. If you will be baking for the 30th, you can let me know by email or sign up on the 9th at the library. The bake sale will also be a place where you can pay your dues, though I'll take them anywhere or anytime. The red, white & blue is more of a catchy title than a description of what you're cooking, although I picture blueberries and strawberries playing a role. Looking forward to seeing you at these events.

We want to welcome you back for another season at the Historical Society. We're going to begin on April 15th (the snow is gone) at 7:00 at the museum for a brief meeting and a program. We'll also be happy to take membership dues.

The program is Genealogy and the Revolution. Mack Phinney will present the genealogy and information that he found on his 7x great grandfather, John Gault, who was a Revolutionary War veteran. Then Mack and Howie Smith will show research on where and when Wareham soldiers fought during the Revolution. This would be very similar to what Rochester soldiers did as the towns are closely linked both geographically and historically.

I will also have some research done on ancestor.com by Cornelia Dougall that will show how that information combined with service records gives a much richer view of a Revolutionary war veteran.

AS always, we'll end with refreshments and good conversation.

Ancestor.com is available for purchase. Get in touch to discuss the possibilities!
