This is the perfect time to check out the Heart of the Greens Loop! Go out for a day ride from the Pittsfield Village, or plan a longer excursion.

If you are headed out to ride this fall, be sure to know which trails typically close each year for hunting season. Vermont Mountain Bike Association has a great resource listing annual closures to be aware of throughout the state.

Here in the Rochester area, the Randolph Gap Trail closes annually for hunting, October 1- June 1. But, users can continue to access the Cassidy’s Chase and Rube’s Run Trail via Mt. Cushman Road.

🛑 GREEN MOUNTAIN TRAIL NETWORK CLOSURE 🛑

The Green Mountain Trails network is closed for forestry work and an active timber harvest until spring. Please respect all posted closures and stay off closed trails and roads.

These closures are not suggestions. Continued disregard for closures puts our access at risk.

Much of the trail network crosses privately owned land, where landowners generously allow recreationists to access their property. That access is a privilege—not something we can take for granted.

When people ignore closures, they jeopardize the relationships that make this trail network possible for everyone.

🌲 Please stay out of all closed areas.
🚧 Respect the signs, gates, and posted closures.
🤝 Help us protect our relationships with landowners and preserve access for the future.

Respect the closure. Protect the access. Keep the trails open for generations to come.

🔥Attention Green Mountain Trails Users!🔥 The trail system is currently closed to all users as there is active forestry work and timber harvest taking place throughout the property as part of Vermont's Current Use program. 🚜 There is large equipment at work throughout the property necessitating the closure. Thank you in advance for respecting our private landowners and the projects on their land.

Our friends at Vermont Huts & Trails are hiring their next Executive Director-could this be you? This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to help shape Vermont's outdoor future.

At Ridgeline, we're especially excited to help spread the word about this opportunity because of our connection to the Velomont Trail project. Ridgeline was part of the early effort that helped bring the Velomont vision to life. The project has grown into a statewide collaboration between Vermont Huts & Trails and Vermont Mountain Bike Association-connecting trail networks, communities, and huts across Vermont.

Open Forest Weekend: October 3–4, 2026

Fall is one of the best times to be in Vermont’s woods. Seven Vermont Tree Farms across the state are opening their woods and inviting you to come explore!

Take a guided walk, meet the landowners and forestry professionals who care for these forests, and see firsthand what’s happening in the woods. Each Tree Farm has something different to discover from wildlife habitat and forest management to invasive plants, maple sugaring, local wood, ash tree management and more!

Whether you’re curious about how Vermont’s forests are cared for or simply looking for a beautiful place to take a fall walk, come spend some time in the woods with us.
