Melby Memorial Volleyball Tournament

Melby Memorial Volleyball Tournament Non-profit fundraising Sand Volleyball Tournament in memory of Paul Melby. Rochester, MN. Our goal is to hopefully make a difficult time be less painful.

The Melby Memorial Volleyball Tournament (MMVT) is run by the non-profit organization Melby Memorial Charities (MMC) for the sole purpose of raising funds to assist volleyball families in need. There are those out there in our volleyball family that have fallen upon hard times, possibly due to a medical condition or an unexpected turn for the worse and are having a difficult time making ends meet.

MMC reaches out to those families in attempt to help out as much as we possibly can financially. Our inaugural year was spent helping a member of our volleyball family, and was the reason we constructed this organization, the Paul Melby family. Paul Melby passed away at a young age from a heart condition, leaving behind a wife and 3 young children. Paul was an unbelievable athlete, friend and teammate. He was, and will always be our true inspiration for the creation of this tournament. Each year we will reach out to similar families to help.

KTTC TV used the most recent Boys Volleyball game at Mayo High School as a backdrop for an upcoming segment they plan to run on our foundation since we also promote and sponsor the local BVB teams.
Tom Overlie KTTC was fantastic to work with as he interviewed some MMC committee members, past recipient families, BVB coaches and players.

It is with deep sadness that we come to you with news of the passing of this year's 2021 MMC recipient, Brooke Gulbrandson.

Those who knew her best will remember her for all the great memories she provided them when she was living life. We, at MMC, will remember her for the brave, strong woman that stood before us in a weakened state and gave the greatest speech at our event showing that she planned to fight until the very end...all extremely honorable qualities in our eyes.

Today, after hearing of the news, one of our committee members put it best when they said "I didn't know Brooke or talk to her at the tournament but I just want to cry about it". So very well said to sum up our MMC follower's feelings --- we help this person that we don't (or hardly) know and you can't help but fall in love with the person she was. That's how someone like Brooke makes you feel. A beautiful person taken from everyone too soon.

Her family extends an enormous heartfelt thank you to everyone who sent their well wishes and for all the funds raised in Brooke's honor.

Stating that she wasn't scared and was ready to go, she left this world peacefully. I think we can all rest easier tonight knowing that.

Our thoughts continue to be with the Gulbrandson family during this time.
