Seneca Park Zoo AAZK Chapter Funds raised do not support the Seneca Park Zoo directly.

The Rochester Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers committed to helping the zookeepers and animals at the Seneca Park Zoo as well as conservation efforts across the globe. We are the Rochester NY chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, a national organization uniting animal care professionals from around North America. Funds raised by our chapter support conservation research programs, animal enrichment items, and professional development opportunities for our animal care team.

Pimento is 33! This week we celebrated our oldest Olive Baboon with a birthday party! She enjoyed goodie bags, frozen fruit ice treats, and a “cake” made just for her! Staff and guests worked together to sing her Happy Birthday both verbally and in sign language!

Now is the time to celebrate our Pachyderms! Today is World Rhino Day and Elephant Appreciation Day so let’s talk about these species.

Here at Seneca Park Zoo we are home to 4 female African elephants and 1 male Southern White rhino. Both of these species can be found living in various parts of Sub-Saharan Africa out in the wild. These species are also both very large and grey, love mud baths, and are herbivores! Elephants and rhinos are both considered pachyderms, meaning they have very thick skin!

It’s JD’s Birthday today! This handsome guy is turning 5! JD is currently the youngest member of our giraffe tower, but will one day be the tallest! Male Masai Giraffe like JD can measure up to 16-18ft tall once fully mature, so he still has some growing to do before he reaches full adulthood!
