Save the date and meet us on the steps of city hall for a public reading of the Declaration of Independence on Wednesday, July 8, the 250th anniversary of the declaration’s first public reading in Philadelphia in 1776.

Co-hosted by Piety Hill Chapter NSDAR Birmingham MI and The Birmingham Museum, the event is one of hundreds of simultaneous public readings happening across the country on July 8, as communities large and small gather in public spaces to reenact the original public reading.

Don’t miss this chance to re-experience the words of America’s founding document with sections read by six local community representatives! Join us at 151 Martin Street on July 8; program starts at 5:50 p.m!

Congratulations to the City of the Village of Clarkston and the Clarkston Historic District Resurvey Committee on receiving recognition from Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office for their outstanding preservation leadership!

Over four years, this volunteer-led effort reevaluated and documented Clarkston’s historic district, uncovering community stories through oral histories, photographs, deed research, and cemetery records while helping ensure the district reflects the full scope of the village’s historic character today.

Their work is a powerful example of how citizen-led preservation efforts can strengthen community identity, celebrate local history, and support thoughtful revitalization for future generations.

Congratulations to the Stoney Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on receiving the Earl E. Borden Historic Preservation Award. The group was recognized for its work to bring the American Revolution Experience to the Rochester Hills Public Library earlier this year.

The experience included display panels and interactive digital kiosks that
used storytelling, illustration, technology, unique artifacts and primary accounts to connect modern audiences with a focus on the more common people and places that shaped the birth of our nation.

Stoney Creek Chapter hosted families as they enjoyed a free, hands-on Children's Liberty Garden Tent during the Greater Rochester Heritage Festival at Rochester Municipal Park on May 30-31, 2026.

In partnership with the Rochester Pollinators, Stoney Creek offered interactive activities to celebrate America250!, the nation's commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Children created native seed balls, adopted a native pollinator plant, and learned about early Rochester.

Environmental stewardship was a key theme, with activities highlighting Michigan's native plants, pollinators, and natural heritage in alignment with America250! principles.

The chapter is proud to have received a grant from the America250Ml History Grant Program, supporting state efforts to commemorate the founding of the United States and the role of the American Revolution in Michigan's history.
