The Moon Seen In Water/ Quarry Hill Creative Center A newsletter page on Wordpress with information on Quarry Hill and its arts. It is ever-changing and truly indescribable. Kids come first.

The Arts and Literature Blog (with other stuff when we feel like adding it) for Quarry Hill Creative Center, Rochester, Vermont; VT's oldest and at times largest alternative lifestyle community, as well as a family business of the Fiske Family-- we rent and sell land, houses, cabins and rooms. Founded in 1946 by Irving Fiske, a writer for the WPA ("The WPA Guide to NYC") and freelance writer (HL M

encken's The American Mercury, Coronet, and others) as well as a playwright, "anti-Guru," poet, and Piscean punster; and by Barbara Hall Fiske, Vistionary figurative artist who worked in the same period as the Abstract Expressionists, but had nothing but contempt for them. She paints (still alive at almost 94, she lives at QH) portraits, landscapes, nudes, and "The Human Form Divine" in all its glory. Their two children, Isabella (Ladybelle) Fiske McFarlin and William Fiske, helped keep the place going. In the Sixties, many people decided they wanted to live at Quarry Hill, attracted by the lack of stern rules and the nomadic lifestyle (the Fiskes then traveled to and from Florida twice a year), and by the freedom, and much more, many people came to build houses and live with the Fiskes. Irving Fiske died in 1990, but Quarry Hill lives on and keeps changing and becoming something new all the time. The most important two agreements people make to live here:
1) No hitting kids (even your "own"-- calling them names-- no neglect. "Adults must remember that they look like insane giants to children."
2) No hunting or fishing, or killing of animals, on the QH property. There are a few more, but not many. People do pretty much as they wish...

Mexico City has ended its 500 year tradition of bullfighting! It is one of the most awful and cruel“sports” in the world. I’m so glad that some of the macho people who love this thing will not get to see it anymore.
Thank you, Mexico City. I hope the rest of Mexico, Spain, parts of southern France, and other places that still allowable fighting will soon outlaw it.

Bullfighting as we know it is now dead in Mexico City. 🐂👀
