Malachi and I had a wonderful time last evening tabling at # 7 school Open House. Parents, Grandparents, and children were excited to choose new books by African American authors and learning about tools they can purchase to help bridge the gap between school and home. They were hungry for strategies and resources to assist their children . Literacy is Liberation!

Every Rochester family should be able to expect that their child is learning, progressing and being prepared for what comes next.

But are they?

We Demand Better is asking Rochester parents and caregivers to tell us what they’re seeing—and what they believe needs to change.

Take or share the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc-7gmMzbQxF4SqsDf45kJHH5nv3RJt_5FnEQ5fsxdFIw4smw/viewform

Then join us October 12 at Parcel 5 as families, educators, business and community leaders, and others come together to support Rochester’s children.

As I began my birthday weekend, my heart was full serving families at Greater Harvest Church, Pray & Play! Families selected books and celebrated the love, joy, wonder, and curiosity literacy brings. My challenge to every family: Read together, talk together, write together, learn together, and make literacy a part of your home every day, because Literacy is Liberation! Let’s Get L.I.T.! ❤️📚
