With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved community elder, Dal Bahadur Magar.

Born in Chhirang, Bhutan, Dal Bahadur Magar later lived in Beldangi-1 Sector G/3 refugee camp in Jhapa, Nepal before beginning a new chapter with his family in Rochester, New York, in March 2014. He leaves behind a loving wife, children, grandchildren, relatives, and many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and presence.

On behalf of the Bhutanese Community of Greater Rochester, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Magar family during this difficult time. May God grant them strength, comfort, and peace, and may the memories of his life continue to be a blessing to all who knew him.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to join in honoring his life at the memorial service and funeral. Please see the flyer below for the service details.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Magar family.

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome Monroe County Legislature President Yversha Roman and Clare Henrie, Program Director of the Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning, to the BCGR Community Center.

We had a great conversation as we began planning our upcoming Healthy Pots, Healthy Homes community event, which will focus on lead awareness, prevention, and creating healthier homes for our families.

A heartfelt thank you to Legislature President Yversha Roman for always taking the time to connect with and support our community, and to Clare Henrie for partnering with us on this important initiative. We’re looking forward to sharing more details about this free community event soon!

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize someone who has quietly given so much to our community.

Tek Acharya has been part of BCGR from the very beginning as one of our founding members. Over the years, he has answered countless phone calls, helped families navigate appointments, assisted during times of loss, and stood beside people when they needed someone most. Much of what he has done happened behind the scenes, without seeking recognition.

Many of us have seen his willingness to serve at any hour of the day. Whether helping a newcomer, supporting a family through funeral arrangements, connecting people with resources, or simply taking time to listen, Tek has always stepped forward with a servant's heart.

Of course, many also know another side of him. He is a gifted singer, a wonderful host, and someone who brings people together with warmth and laughter.

Since being appointed Executive Director in 2024, Tek has continued to serve BCGR with dedication and care. While he is stepping away from that role, we are grateful that he will continue to support BCGR as an advisor. His experience, wisdom, and love for this community will remain an important part of our journey.

On behalf of the BCGR Board and the entire community, thank you, Tek, for your years of service, your leadership, and the countless ways you've invested in others. We appreciate you more than words can say.

Thank you for everything you have done - and for continuing to walk alongside our community.

Some people make a difference quietly, and Sara Adhikari is one of them.

Week after week, she has shown up for our children with patience, kindness, and a genuine heart for teaching. She gives her time freely, not because she has to, but because she believes our kids should stay connected to their language, culture, and roots.

Thank you, Sara, for everything you do. Your dedication is shaping the next generation in ways that will last for years. BCGR is grateful to have you.

❤️ Thank you for investing in our children.
