Tomorrow is Trans Day of Visibility. This is observed every year to show the awesomeness of gender-expansive folks, and MedCIty REFUGE is excited to celebrate you! However you connected to our nonprofit, we are grateful you're here. Wishing you all you need tomorrow as you celebrate and/or make sure you stay safe. We know that life is hard right now, and we want you to know you are valued, treasured, and loved. If you're an ally, please keep speaking up and use your privilege to make this world a safer place for our gender-expansive siblings.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support (past or present) for MedCity REFUGE. You sharing our program, helping at Pride, giving of your time, talents, and treasures make MCR what it is today. https://medcityrefuge.org/

Let me give you some updates on our programs. In the past year:

1. We helped 8 people with temporary lodging, food support, and community through visits, talks on the phone, and invitations to things happening in the community.
2. We participated in 2 Prides.
3. We raised funds that supported the cost of temporary lodging.

2026 is shaping up to be another great year! By year's end, we will:

1. Work with a local gender-affirming clinic to take referrals.
2. Work on policy that moves us to the next phase of creating REFUGE Homes.
3. Create post-surgical totes that have supplies for people after they have surgery.
4. Collect donated biders and prosthetics for those in need.

How Can You Help?

1. Your time at Pride will be very helpful! Sign-ups will come out at the end of April, beginning of May.
2. Once we have a supply list for the post-surgical totes, we need the supplies. Things we can sanitize and reuse, we will, but there will be things that are a constant need--gauze, bandages, creams, etc.
3. If you have binders and prosthetics you no longer use, please find a good home with us here at MCR.

Would you donate if it could save a life?

After obtaining at least 1 gender-affirming surgery, 97% of gender-queer individuals reported increased life satisfaction (1) and they were 44% less likely to report experiencing suicidal ideation in the past year (2).

MedCity REFUGE, a new non-profit, aids gender-queer people who travel to Rochester, MN to obtain gender-affirming care by offering temporary lodging, supportive resources, and fostering community.
