A foundation of the Society for Design Administration (SDA), Canstruction® is a trademarked design/build competition currently held in cities throughout North America and countries around the world including Australia. Teams of architects, engineers, and students mentored by these professionals, compete to design and build giant structures made entirely out of canned foods. It takes 8-12 weeks and

thousands of cans of food to create a structure. The results are displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits in each city where a competition is held. The public is invited to donate canned food at the time of the exhibition. At the close of the exhibitions all of the canned food used in the structures is donated to local food banks for distribution to emergency feeding programs that include pantries, soup kitchens, elderly and day care centers. Since its inception, ten million pounds of food has been donated to aid in the fight against hunger. Initiated by the Denver, Seattle and New York Chapters of the SDA in 1992/93, Canstruction® now has over one hundred and forty individual competitions scheduled to take place during the 2009-2010 cycle. Design and construction industry professional associations that have partnered with the SDA in organizing local competitions include the American Institute of Architects, the Society for Marketing Professional Services and the International Interior Design Association. We’re thrilled to announce the winners of our 16th Annual Canstruction Rochester design-build competition, which resulted in 32,631 lbs. of food donated to Foodlink!

This year’s theme, Cosmic Conquest: Rise of the Cans, inspired incredible creativity, teamwork, and heart from all participating teams. We’re so proud of how each build turned out!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 16th Annual Canstruction Gala! Together, we celebrated the incredible teams and sponsors who give back to our community and help fight food insecurity. As we get ready for next week’s Canstruction Rochester Gala, we’d like to give a huge thank-you to our incredible panel of judges! 🏆 Each brought their passion for our community and a keen eye for creativity as they tackled the tough job of selecting this year’s winners. We’re so grateful for their time, dedication, and CAN-do attitude that helped make 2025 another fantastic year for Canstruction Rochester!

Join us TOMORROW at noon at The Strong Museum for the Canstruction Rochester 2025 Kick-Off Meeting!

We’ll cover this year’s schedule, layout, and unveil the theme: Cosmic Conquest: Rise of the Cans🚀, a sci-fi-inspired adventure through space, technology, and extraterrestrial life. Teams are encouraged to draw inspiration from movies, books, games, shows, or general space-age concepts.

New to Canstruction? It’s a design-build competition where teams create large-scale sculptures entirely out of canned food. After the event, all cans are donated to Foodlink to help feed our community.🥫❤️

Thank you again to everyone who participated in this year's "Pumpcans, Witches, and Ghostly Goods" themed Canstruction Rochester competition. As a result, we were able to raise over 34,000 cans to be donated to Foodlink and feed those in need throughout the community. We had a blast celebrating with you all at The Strong Museum and can not wait to start brainstorming themes for next year! Drop any theme ideas below, we would love to hear from you. 💭

Canstruction Rochester is here, and this year's theme, "Pumpcans, Witches, and Ghostly Goods," has brought some spook-tacular creations to life! 🎃👻 Our talented teams have outdone themselves this year, using their creativity and skills to fight hunger in our community, one can at a time. 🥫 This year's builds will remain on display until November 2 at The Strong Museum.
