Black Men Achieve Youth had a great time supporting and participating in the City of Rochester's Clean Sweep this past spring. Our youth had the opportunity to clean up two areas of the city and lend a hand organizing their program space at the Danforth Community Center. They also got hands-on experience and learned the basics of gardening while helping out in a local community garden and picking up trash along Scio Street.

It was a powerful experience in giving back and taking pride in our neighborhoods. This year, they’re looking forward to hosting their own mini Clean Sweeps as a way to promote community service and help keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. @topfansJermayne Myers

Black Men Achieve Youth had a great time supporting and participating in the City of Rochester's Clean Sweep Rally this past spring. Our youth showed true dedication by waking up at 6:30am on a Saturday—yes, a Saturday—to get pumped up and ready to serve the community. They had the opportunity to meet city officials, local community leaders, and connect with other volunteers. Some even made new friends along the way. It was an inspiring day filled with service, leadership, and community spirit.

Taking Flight: Exploring Military and Aviation Careers at the Cleveland National Air Show

Our youth had an incredible opportunity to attend the Cleveland National Air Show at Burke Lakefront Airport last September—one of the largest air shows in the country. While there, they witnessed cutting-edge aircraft and historic warbirds up close, including million-dollar military planes and helicopters.

The experience offered more than just a show—it was a deep dive into military and aviation careers. Youth learned about the different branches of the military, especially the U.S. Air Force, and explored the many roles within the aviation industry, from pilots to the vital technical, protective, and mechanical crews who keep the planes flying.

They had the chance to meet active military and airline pilots, ask questions, and even get hands-on exposure to the equipment and tools used in the field. The event sparked real interest among several of our high school juniors and seniors—some have already committed to military service and will be entering the U.S. Air Force and Army this summer and fall.

This was more than a field trip—it was a launchpad for future careers.

Taking Flight: Exploring Military and Aviation Careers at the Cleveland National Air Show

Black Men Achieve had an incredible opportunity to visit Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Guardians, for a powerful hands-on learning experience focused on careers in sports and entertainment.

The sports industry offers far more than just what you see on the field — and our youth got to explore it all! They toured behind-the-scenes areas of the stadium and discovered how Major League Baseball teams and venues operate at every level.

They learned about dozens of careers, including:
⚾ Coaching & umpiring
⚾ Mascoting & sports photography
⚾ Event management & camera operations
⚾ Stadium security & game day tech support
⚾ Athletic training, team logistics, and field maintenance
⚾ Concession management — learning firsthand what it takes to run a food operation serving thousands of fans quickly and efficiently

They even had the chance to step onto the field and into the dugout, experiencing the environment of players, coaches, and team personnel. One of the biggest highlights was touring the Press Box, where they learned about careers in sports broadcasting, writing, and commentating.

For our student-athletes, this trip was a powerful reminder that there are backup plans and multiple career paths available within the world of sports. For others, it was an eye-opening look into exciting possibilities they may have never imagined.
