Bed Bug Awareness Week (June 2-8, 2024)

Bed bugs can hide and make their way into your home in many ways. The bed bugs spread passively from one area to the next. They can hide and be carried into our home in clothing, backpacks, mattresses, box springs, bed frames, furniture, and many more ways. Your kids can bring them home from school when laying down for naptime, spending the night at a friends home, or placing their backpacks next to someone’s in school. You can pick up bed bugs at a movie theater, at work, or visiting a friend. People can have a bed bug infestation and not even know it. Unfortunately, there is no way to completely protect yourself. But there are a few things you can do to reduce your risk.
• Do a quick bed bug inspection when staying somewhere.
o Behind headboards, inside dressers, drawers, and sofas and chairs
o Pull back the sheets and check the mattress
o Use a small flashlight for better visibility
• Be able to identify bed bugs and their eggs.
• When traveling put your suitcase and belongings on a hard surface in the bathroom, not on the bed or carpet.

Drinking Water Week was May 5-11, 2024, but water plays a vital role in our lives each and every day! It is one of our planets most valuable resources. We use water for drinking, agriculture, industry, recreation, hygiene, sanitation, and health care. Water sustainability is a global concern. May is “National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.”

Asthma is one of the most common reasons children visit a doctor each year. Common symptoms include: coughing, wheezing, fast breathing, or tightness in the chest. In addition, common triggers include: respiratory infections, indoor allergens such as cigarette smoke, dust mites, mold, dander or fur, and air pollution, and temperature changes to name a few. However, for many children asthma symptoms can be controlled. Knowing your child’s asthma triggers, following the asthma action plan given to you by your doctor, and taking medications as prescribed can all help.
