Facebook memories reminded me of the work Iβve done and nudged me to get busy on the work that I still need to do!
I created Wonderfully Made Girls in 2014 as a way to give back to my community. I saw a need for a program for this age group at the time it was only one. I was blessed to work within the Rochester City School District at schools #52 and #19. Over those years, I was blessed to mentor over 50 young girls in 5th-8th grade!
Getting the support from the community was the real challenge. Attempting to collaborate with other women doing similar work failed. Keisha Simone is a witness to that! I never bragged about the work I did because it was never about the likes or popularity for me. Weekly I went into those schools and even if it was for just an hour the impact was made.
Young girls need positive role models that look like them. I was thankful for the people who helped after the meetings I had when I attempted to build a team. Maybe I will try this again when my schedule allows for it. Without a team and caregiving, I had to put an end to this program but maybe it was a pause. ππ
