CHURCH PLANTING UPDATE - FROM DANNY SCHAFFNER

This summer has moved quickly, and if we are not careful, we could miss the ways God is already at work.

As part of Crossroads’ church planting and church renewal efforts, we have begun walking alongside churches that are exploring restart opportunities. While church planting often begins with a new work in a new location, more churches are also recognizing that God may be calling established congregations into a new season of life, mission, and kingdom impact.

In the Minneapolis and St. Paul region, two churches are taking courageous steps toward restart. Both churches have a meaningful history of ministry in their communities. Both have served faithfully over the years. And both are discerning what it means to step into a new day with renewed clarity, partnership, and mission.

Valley Christian Church recently decided to move forward in partnership with Anchor Community Church. At the end of this spring, the church voted 98% in favor of this new partnership. Pastor Ryan Wyndel and Anchor Community Church are now moving toward a public launch in September 2026. This is a significant step of faith and a beautiful picture of one church’s willingness to steward its legacy for future kingdom impact.

New Brighton Christian Church has also begun a restart process. This summer, the church entered a season of prayerful conversation about its future while searching for a new lead minister. Those conversations led to Danny Schaffner, Jr. accepting the role with the intention of helping lead a restart in partnership with Mission Church as the new work. On August 9, New Brighton Christian Church voted 48–0 to approve moving forward in this direction. The church is now beginning a longer restart pathway, with a full relaunch planned for September 2027.
Both churches are in different spots in their processes, but these stories remind us that restart work is not simply about preserving the past or changing for the sake of change. It is about honoring what God has done, discerning what God is doing, and courageously stepping into what God may want to do next.

Please continue to pray for Valley Christian Church, Anchor Community Church, New Brighton Christian Church, Mission Church, and the leaders involved in these restart efforts. Pray for wisdom, unity, humility, courage, and renewed mission as these churches take faithful next steps.
