Whenever there is a 5th Tuesday in a month, Golden Link hosts a Members Showcase Concert instead of the usual sing around.

The evening will include group singing along with select soloists and duos performing contemporary and memorable songs that speak to our times while beckoning deeper connections to see us through. Several of our singer-songwriters will be sharing original songs.

This year, our festival will be held at the Historic German House, located in the heart of Rochester’s South Wedge neighborhood. Built in 1908, the building has been recently restored, and we are confident it will be a memorable place to share another year with our folk-singing community.

The day will include a variety of workshops—centered around music, singing, and acoustic instruments. As in the recent past, we are bringing back The Submarine School—which has been a special favorite to lead us in songs we know and love.

To our workshop agenda, we have added an afternoon concert, performed by Katherine Gaffney & Benjamin Chandler, a Young Voices duo, new to us in the Rochester area.

You will not want to miss our evening concert given by David Francey and Bruce Molsky

Of course, we didn’t forget the food! No need to run out and get lunch, we will have it there for you. In the evening, we are planning a delicious hot buffet. This year, we are adding a cash bar during the supper hour.

Don't miss Golden Link at the ADK Outdoor Expo Saturday, June 13th at Mendon Ponds Park!

Golden Link will once again be providing the music for the Adirondack Expo! This year’s Expo will be June 13th at Mendon Ponds and our performances will run from 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM.

This event is aimed at the lovers of outdoor activities and includes workshops, information booths and opportunities to look at and try out kayaks and canoes. Please come out to learn and be entertained.

Thanks to everyone who brought food to Golden Link's concerts this month for the Food Drive, and to the members of Greece Baptist Church who also brought in donations. We dropped off 172 lbs. of food to help support the local community. Special thanks to Garnet Rogers for requesting right in his contract that we hold a food drive. A great way to give back to the community!

A shout-out to everyone who attended the concert at the Greece Baptist Church of Greece, NY that featured Garnet Rogers & the Golden Link Folk Singing Society! Thank you for contributing 172 lbs of food to help our neighbors!

Pete & Woody: An Unlikely Friendship

Created by New York City folk singers Steve Suffet and Pat Lamanna, Pete & Woody: An Unlikely Friendship is a one-hour multimedia presentation that explores the relationship between folk icons Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie.

After they first met in 1940, Woody Guthrie became Pete Seeger’s mentor, inspiration, and guide who set him on a journey that continued all his life. Over time, however, their relationship changed, and Pete became Woody’s champion, helping to promote Woody’s songs and story as Woody’s mental and physical health began to deteriorate. Pete continued to play this role after Woody passed away in 1967, and much of Woody’s worldwide popularity today is a direct or indirect result of Pete’s efforts.

Pete & Woody consists of 15 songs performed live, along with slides and narration. Pat and Steve originally developed it for the Walthamstow Folk Club in London, England, where it was enthusiastically received in October 2019. They have presented it several times since and look forward to presenting it anew for Golden Link, with Richard Mattocks delivering the narration.

Need to find the lyrics and chords for songs? Eager to replace your paper songbook with an iPad or tablet? Want to play along with others in a group sharing songs or scores? There’s an app for that!

Matty Termotto and Dan Kuchta will demonstrate a variety of software applications for computers or tablets that will help you learn songs easier, organize the songs you have and simplify playing songs live at sing arounds or on stage.

They’ll be going over what the apps can do for you, what the costs are (if any), and how to use them to your best advantage.

Workshop seats are limited to 12 people so be sure to register (online only) by Sunday, June 7 at midnight. For questions, contact our Education Coordinator.
