💪🍁Congratulations to all the Tour de Essex runners who took on the rolling trails of Essex Park on October 10, enjoying beautiful fall colors, a few gopher mounds, and plenty of ups and downs along the way! Special shout-outs to Kristen Resman, who set a new women’s course record, and Gwen Jacobson, who broke her own women’s 60–69 course record. Amazing running!
🌲 Every step makes a difference! The Tour de Essex is about more than racing. Runner entry fees directly support trail maintenance at Essex Park and Quarry Hill, helping keep these wonderful trails in great shape for our community to enjoy year-round.
💚 A huge THANK YOU to our volunteers! Your time and hard work maintaining trails, clearing brush and downed trees, and making events like this possible help our entire outdoor community thrive. We couldn’t do it without you!
Results are available on the RASC website.

Wow! It has been an incredible week for the trail projects at Gamehaven Park! If you go up to the paved upper lot you will see a lot, and I mean A LOT, of dirt next to the beginner jump line. This dirt will be used to complete the intermediate and advanced jump lines this spring. A HUGE shout out to our community partners Frana Companies () and Veit Specialty Contractors () for providing and delivering the dirt to the site. Their donation of the soil will be a huge step forward for the jump park at Gamehaven! We are incredibly grateful for their contributions and willingness to work with us for this amazing community project. Bruce from Frana, Phil and Dillon from Veit were amazing to work with and they were excited to help out!

This is all part of the Bike Park project covered by a DNR grant that RASC and the Rochester Park & Recreation department partnered on for some great upgrades and amenities at Gamehaven Park, including finishing the jump park and construction of a large mountain bike skills area (plus more stuff!). If all goes well hopefully construction will begin on the jump lines and skills area in Spring of 27'! Thank you everyone for your support and again thanks Frana and Veit for the soil and coordinating all your drivers for delivery of the dirt!

Temporary easement we constructed for protecting the pedestrian path used aggregate materials and erosion management systems you will see around the dirt mounds was provided by Rochester Parks and Recreation Department.

TOUR DE ESSEX IS COMING UP!

Saturday, October 10, 2026
Essex Park, Rochester, MN

Experience the rolling hills of the Essex Park trails at the Tour de Essex. Enjoy the trails used for hiking, running, dog walking, and cross country skiing. These trails are expertly maintained throughout the year by volunteers of the Rochester Active Sports Community (RASC).

The approximately 7K trail run will start at 9:00 AM on the Essex Park entrance road and then head onto the trails. Running surfaces on the race course are mainly grass and dirt with short sections of gravel and asphalt.

RASC members receive a $5 discount on the entry fee by using the code ‘RASC’ when registering. Race proceeds will be used for trail maintenance expenses.

Come on out and enjoy a great fall morning touring the Essex Park trails, and at the same time you'll be supporting the year-round maintenance of the Essex Park and Quarry Hills Park trail systems!

This race is jointly sponsored by the Rochester Running Club and Rochester Active Sports Community

Ever wondered what it takes to build new trail? Well here is a little peak at the process. This video shows Several hours of work condensed to 40 seconds. This is a section of new trail being built out at Gamehaven Park. The process means flagging the trail, rough corridor cutting, clearing the corridor (shown in the video) and then any machine or finishing work. This video shows one of our volunteers removing deadfall, cleaning the corridor, and then raking to ready the trail for finishing work!

And the bridge is back in business! We would like to extend a massive THANK YOU to all have donated for the storm damage. Within just a few days we received $1500. Since the total cost of the replacement boards was only $130, any extra funds will go directly toward trail maintenance and upkeep to help keep the trails running great. If you would like to further donate, please visit the link in the comments.

Northern Heights also received the leaf blower treatment this morning, so it's nice and clear. Go and enjoy while the weather is nice!
