Happy Women Veterans Day!

Today we celebrate the anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, which officially allowed women to serve full-time in our nation's military. Throughout America's history, women have played a pivotal role in our military's success. From Deborah Sampson's bravery during the American Revolution, to Army Sergeant First Class Leigh Ann Hester becoming the first woman since World War II to earn the Silver Star for combat valor.

VOC's own female veteran group "Just Because...We are Women" celebrated the legacy and history of women's rights, both in the military and in the civilian world, on a recent trip to Seneca Falls. The group visited the National Women's Hall of Fame and received a private tour before hearing a lecture about the history of the women's rights movement from a National Park Ranger.

The group also explored the Purple Heart Trail of Seneca Falls, where they discovered the name Aleda Lutz, a WWII Army Nurse, for whom a VA hospital in Michigan is named. Her name is one of only two female veterans on the trail.

The group enjoyed an inspirational, sunny day of learning about the history of the women's rights movement and the remarkable women who fought for the rights women have today

As part of its Vets With Pets program, Veterans Outreach Center is hosting a tree-planting ceremony from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10th, at VOC – 447 South Ave., Rochester – to remember and honor the beloved pets and faithful companions of our veterans that have passed away. This event coincides with World Pet Memorial Day, which falls on the second Tuesday in June every year.

As part of its Vets With Pets program, Veterans Outreach Center (VOC) is hosting a tree-planting ceremony from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10th, at VOC – 447 South Ave., Rochester – to remember and honor the beloved pets and faithful companions of our veterans that have passed away....

Last week, Veterans Outreach Center’s Director of Programs, Loni Wellman, attended the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans 2026 Annual Conference as a Bob Woodruff Foundation scholarship recipient.

The Annual Conference brought together service providers, federal partners, advocates, researchers, and community stakeholders from across the country for several days of learning, collaboration, and shared commitment to ending veteran homelessness. It was a powerful opportunity to connect with others doing this work, exchange ideas, and bring back knowledge that strengthens our ability to serve veterans and their families here in our community.

We’re proud to be a member of the Bob Woodruff Foundation’s Network. We are grateful to the Bob Woodruff Foundation and Craig Newmark Philanthropies for providing a scholarship to attend the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans Conference, enhancing our ability to support service members, veterans, their families, and caregivers.

Veterans Outreach Center's Vets with Pets Program invites you to join us for a tree-planting ceremony to remember the beloved pets and faithful companions of our veterans that have passed away.

VOC is dedicating time to celebrate the special bond shared with animals and provide comfort to those grieving the loss of a pet. Led by Pastor Leeann Kaiser of Light and Leash Ministries and her assisted pet therapy dog, Pastor Stewy.
