Our veterans — our neighbors, friends, and family — stood strong and made sacrifices for our country. They answered the call for us, and now it's our turn to answer the call for them.

Please join us for our annual A Stars & Stripes Celebration, presented by Bank of America, a night to remember the fallen, honor the living, and support our local veterans.

Did you know one of America’s first combat pilots came from right here in Rochester?

Long before the establishment of the United States Air Force, Rochester native Clayton Knight was paving the way for future pilots in America’s military.

Born in 1891, Knight volunteered for the U.S. Signal Corps at the onset of the First World War. He quickly turned his passion for flying into a military career, serving with the British Royal Flying Corps before American units fully deployed.

On October 5th, 1918, Knight’s plane was shot down behind enemy lines, where we was held as a prisoner of war until the War ended.

Upon his return, he focused on his art and writing before founding the Clayton Knight Committee, an organization that brought thousands of American pilots to Canada to train them to fight alongside British forces during the Second World War.

VOC's Chief Happiness Officer for the month of October is Advancement Associate Grace's cat, Scottie!

Scottie is a rescue from Mr. Grey's Strays in Brockport, and she is just over three months old. She was found outdoors in the Greece, NY, area and adopted in September. In the few weeks that she's been with her forever family, this sweet kitten has made herself right at home!

Scottie is a chatty girl, especially when she knows it's time for breakfast, and she loves to play with as many toys as she can get her paws on. When she's not busy chasing toys around the house with her brother, you can find Scottie curled up in her window seat, on her favorite blanket, or fast asleep on one of her human friends. As she continues to settle in and explore her new home, Scottie's playful and loving personality continues to blossom!

This , VOC would like to highlight some of our good friends in the community who have continued their commitment to serving local veterans. Thank you so much for all that you do!

Thank you to Phyllis Walker from District 8 VFW Auxiliary Department of NY, the Human Development Committee at Saint Lawrence Church in Greece, and the good folks from the Ginna Nuclear Power Plant (Constellation) for donating several clothing, food, and hygiene items to our Quartermaster.

We would also like to thank the kind volunteers at Asbury First United Methodist Church for inviting our Community Engagement Manager, Michele Martell, to their Community Outreach Center to learn more about VOC's services and to present us with a generous donation.

Finally, VOC is grateful to the American Legion Greece Post 468 in Greece, the Post Auxiliary, and Commander Kevin Woodbury for their generous support of VOC and our veterans. Members donated over $5,000 in proceeds from the recent AL New York Senior and Junior State Championship Tournaments at Penfield High School. The winners will move to regional play in their quest to make it to the Legion Baseball World Series.

September 27th is Gold Star Mother's Day, and Veterans Outreach Center would like to take a moment to recognize the parents of the men and women who never returned from duty.

Behind every fallen service member is a family whose sacrifice and grief should not go unrecognized.

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting our Gold Star families, ensuring their loved ones’ legacies are forever remembered.

Today at the VOC Stand Down, we reaffirmed our commitment to making Monroe County the best place in New York for veterans to live and thrive. Last year, our VSA helped secure over 3,000 VA claims, and we will keep pursuing policies like the veteran’s tax exemption to support those who served our country.

Our friends at joined VOC, members of our Board of Directors, and Forged By Valor co-founder, Scott Quick, to present a $250,000 check in support of our Workforce Development program. We can't thank them enough for their generosity and investment in VOC and local veterans. These funds will go a long way toward supporting veterans looking for immediate job placements, upskilling and certifications, and those who want more out of their careers. We also work with hiring businesses in the community to identify highly skilled veteran talent to join their teams.

Additionally, our Workforce Development program partners with Forged by Valor to help veterans attend their welding school at no cost.
