Education for a Peaceful Syria

Education for a Peaceful Syria We are a team of students and activists around the world dedicated to support the Syrian refugees in Turkey by improving their education system.

We have four main goals to achieve during our project in the summer:

1) Mental Health Counseling for teachers. The counselors are volunteer psychologists from the Arab World (Arabic speakers) who will come to Turkey in order to conduct these counseling sessions.

2) Logistic and financial support for Syria Bright Future’s educational workshops - we will be working closely with an NGO called Syri

a Bright Future(SBF) based in Turkey. SBF plans to offer educational workshops for teachers to learn proper teaching methods for students who are late in their education. These sessions will be lead by qualified educational experts at SBF’s headquarters. We will be partners with SBF both logistically and financially.

3) Providing school supplies - We will be providing stationery and school supplies to students based on their need.

4) Organizing extracurricular activities for students -
Extracurricular and recreational activities are necessary for healthy holistic development of an individual during their school years.

General information

We have established this team as a result of our awareness-raising campaign at the University of Rochester campus to educate American and international students about the status of Syrian refugees and where they stand in the world today. It is a given that every human deserves equality education as a human right - not as a privilege granted to the few. However, according to research conducted in Duke University (Dorman, 2014), Syrian students in Turkey have educational problems due to language barriers, as well as psychological trauma caused by the civil war in Syria. Quality education for Syrian students would maintain their synchronization with their peers around the world, as well as give them the necessary tools to build a new peaceful Syria after the civil war is concluded. This is where our plan stems from, the belief that Syrian students deserve access to all the resources that will facilitate and ease their education.
