It’s World Turtle Day! 🐢

Freshwater turtles like to live in ponds, lakes, and wetlands.

Did you know? The Haudenosaunee creation story involves a turtle who was called up from the sea to become a place for Sky Woman to land. Mud was placed upon its back and the turtle began to grow so large that it became an island. The continent we call North America was first known as Turtle Island, and many Indigenous people still use this name.

If you’d like to learn more about the creation story, Ganondagan State Historic Site will be hosting a free traditional dance & live performance of “Skannoh from Turtle Island” this summer.

Join Reconnect Rochester for one of four group rides ending at Union & East Avenue for a pit stop to fuel up on free coffee and breakfast.

Several of our staff regularly bike to work for a multitude of reasons:

🚲 Preferred mode of transportation
🚲 Enjoyment
🚲 To save on gas
🚲 Generates a good mood
🚲 To decompress on the way home
