Deaf Senior Services Coalition

The DSSC is a group of advocates, service providers and health care systems committed to creating and ensuring an ASL accessible continuum of care to Rochester’s Deaf 55+ community. DSSC is looking for committed community advocates and professionals who want to make a difference in creating systems change with local service providers and health care entities in the

following areas:

-Increased access to ASL interpreters in long term care & rehab facilities
- Nursing home administrators’ awareness and needs of Deaf residents
- Expanded Deaf friendly senior health community resources & services
- ASL/Deaf-led Home Health Care Training & Certification
-Provision and retention of Deaf medical professionals in Rochester

DSSC and Lifespan of Greater Rochester Inc. have partnered together to create a Deaf Respite program.

If you are a caregiver of a loved one with dementia who is fluent in ASL and would like to set up services, contact Bethany Razo. You will be matched with a volunteer who is fluent in ASL and will spend a few hours with your loved one so that you can have a break. You can email Bethany at [email protected].

Contact Ellen Warner if you'd like to become a volunteer to provide Respite Care to a person with dementia. You must be fluent in ASL. You will be reimbursed for mileage. You can email Ellen at [email protected].
