Wondering what your rights are if you or your family has been exposed to lead?

Join us for a FREE virtual Lunch & Learn on Monday, July 20, from 12:00–1:00 PM to learn about tenant rights related to lead exposure.

Attorney A.J. Durwin, Managing Attorney of Tenant Advocacy at Empire Justice Center, will discuss:

• How tenants can help prevent lead exposure
• What to do if you or a family member has been exposed
• The warranty of habitability and your legal rights
• How to enforce those rights and the remedies available if they have been violated

This webinar covers New York State law, so the information will be relevant to tenants across New York, not just Monroe County.

In June, the CDC hosted the Lead-Free Communities Summit at its Chamblee Campus.

It was inspiring to hear about the meaningful work our fellow grantees are doing to create healthier, lead-safe communities across the country. We were especially grateful for the opportunity to spend time with Dr. Allwood and Quanza Brooks Wilson of the CDC’s Lead Poisoning Prevention & Surveillance Branch and to learn more about the shared commitment to preventing lead exposure.

Together, we’re strengthening partnerships and advancing the work to create healthier, lead-safe communities for all.

This past Saturday, we hosted our first-ever Cooking Pot Exchange in collaboration with Foodlink and the Monroe County, NY Legislature. It was a beautiful day!

Attendees enjoyed a live cooking demonstration where they learned how to prepare a fresh summer pasta recipe. We also gave away 60 stainless steel, lead-free Cuisinart cooking pots along with custom tote bags printed by Tiny Fish Printing to help families cook safely at home.

A special thank you to Cook's World for partnering with us to make this event possible. Guests also had the opportunity to purchase fresh produce from the Foodlink Curbside Market, making it easy to take home healthy ingredients to use in their new cookware.

We’re grateful to Monroe County Legislators Yversha Roman- Monroe County Legislator, District 26, Marvin Stepherson, and William Burgess for joining us, speaking at the event, and supporting this important initiative. Thank you to Macarollin for providing free lunches for families and guests, and to all of the community organizations that tabled and shared valuable information and resources.

This was truly a collaborative effort, and we couldn’t have done it without our incredible partners, volunteers, and community members. Thank you for believing, as we do, that education, access to resources, and community partnerships are key to preventing lead poisoning. 💙

That’s why we’re proud to host Healthy Pots, Healthy Homes with Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning on June 27 (12–2 PM) at the Foodlink Community Farm.
