We are here with another rescue myth buster and appreciated Noah Kahan’s words on a dog’s selfless love.

To quote one of our co-founders: “Dogs deserve a voice and a choice. They deserve people willing to listen, meet their needs, and sometimes change our own expectations so we can live well together.”

MYTH: Once a dog enters rescue, they’ll find a home quickly.

Sometimes they do.

Sometimes they don’t.

Some are adopted in days. Others may wait months or even years. A rescue remains responsible for that dog while they wait — continuing to provide care, support, and a safe place to land.

At Forever Fido Puppy Rescue on average see dogs in our care 51-55 days, that is from 8 weeks to adulthood.

And behind every adoption is a small but mighty team of people working behind the scenes:

We have the sweetest adoption update for this special girl!

Moon (now named Maki!) came to Forever Fido Puppy Rescue as along with her brother Niko, now Butters. She first exhibited a bit more reserved, shy personality at the farm. After spending a short time in a foster home in Rochester, Moon began coming out of her shell. 🐾

A part of that transformation was her foster sibling, Riku a Forever Fido alum, who showed Moon that the world could be a fun place.

And then came the family who was completely over the moon for Moon! 🥹 They knew she was the one, and now she’s living her best life with her new family and two feline siblings.

From a shy breeder-release girl discovering the world to a cherished member of a family of her very own… this story makes our heart melt.

Happy tails, sweet girl! Your forever family was worth the wait.

With all of our rescue pups, we aim to train them on skills such as impulse control, crate training, recall cues so that they have their best chance of success once adopted and in their homes!

The continued training we include in the adoption fee is a key way we will help support post-adoption as we believe owner education is something we can equip adopters with for lifelong success!

Adoption update: Shadow! 🐩🐾

Thank you everyone for the overwhelming amount of shares and applications we received for Shadow, as is he absolutely the best boy.

The K family shared some photos of him working on his settle in place training skills as he is adjusting to his new home, and doing exceptionally well under the guidance of Jessi’s post adoption training support.

We are so happy for you Shadow, and even happier that we are able to see you thrive in your home!

Meet Hero! 🐾

🇺🇸 A Special Adoption Opportunity for Veterans 🇺🇸

Hero was originally raised and trained to become a service dog for a veteran. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, he was unable to continue in the program. Now, we’re hoping to find him the perfect veteran to call his very own as a loving companion!

Hero is housebroken, crate trained, and does well with both dogs and cats. He can be a little nervous when first meeting children, but he does well with calm, predictable kids. Once he feels comfortable and knows they’re safe, he’s ready to be their best friend!

This sweet boy has so much love to give and is ready to find a family where he can settle in and enjoy being someone’s loyal companion.

Because Hero was originally raised to become a service dog for veterans, we are honoring that purpose by placing him exclusively with a veteran as a companion dog. This is a firm requirement, and no exceptions will be made.

Hero’s adoption fee will be waived for an approved veteran adopter, and this is our promise as part of the Freedom Fidos project we started, to give back to the veteran community.

While Hero will not be placed as a trained service dog, he has so much to offer as a loving companion. His original journey may have changed, but we believe he can still make a wonderful difference in a veteran’s life through friendship, companionship, and unconditional love.

We were almost brought to tears for how welcoming and supportive the MN Treads community had been to Forever Fido Puppy Rescue last night!

Thank you SO much to Brock and family, the runners and walkers who came out to help fundraise $400 and help socialize our puppies, Snowball and Sunny who were the stars of the night 🌟 They are both available for adoption and waiting for their forever families.

The funds raised will go a very long way and help fund crucial spay and neuter expenses for these pups. The progress we saw last night in a few hours was phenomenal, the pups went from nervous to excited to explore the store and meet new people—with lots of treats to reinforce positive experiences!

Big shoutout again to Christine who groomed Sunny and Snowball earlier that afternoon to help them freshen up and look so festive for Halloween for their debut.

Huge thank you to our friend Christine's Pampered Pooches for helping groom our two bichon/shih-tzu puppies Snowball and Sunny ahead of their big debut at the Minnesota Treads open run and walk event tonight!

Please come out and meet them, get some steps in and a chance to win fun raffle prizes at 6pm!

Meet Oscar (the black German Shepherd mix on the green towel)!

He is almost two years old and has been in Jessi’s service dog training program, and is available for adoption or a long term foster.

Because of his potential need for a future hip surgery, he can’t continue in the formal program. However, he is a great candidate to be adopted to a family who may need an ESA.

He does not show any signs of hip pain now which is great but wanted to disclose up front about future needs.

He is doing great with all of his training and impressively held his down stay for 45 minutes 🙌
