Mo jodi a se Ayiti. 🇭🇹

We begin by honoring the Indigenous people of this land, especially the TaĂno, whose presence still lives on in its name, memory, and history.

Before it was called Saint-Domingue under French colonial rule, this land carried an Indigenous name: Ayiti.

After independence, the Haitian people reclaimed that name. Today, Ayiti points back to the same powerful meaning: “land of high mountains” or “mountainous land.”

And this is just the beginning. Each day this month, we’ll be sharing a new word as we celebrate Haiti, Haitian Creole, and the many stories carried in our language.

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
-Audrey Hepburn

A few short months ago, our little HCH family planted a garden.
We planted in a small space, part of a space we were still making home.
A place where trauma and fears were slowly healing and dissipating; where sleep was becoming restful and refreshing again.

And so we planted.

With some joy, and also some trepidation.
Planting meant time. Roots. Hope.

And so we waited and watered and waited.
And of course, inevitably weeded.

We watched fragile shoots pop out of the soil.
Watered them, and protected them from the torrential rains bringing too much water!

Before we knew it buds were growing.
Smiles began to widen. Photos were taken.
And then colors began changing from a swath of green to include a hint of orange-red.

And then it was time.
We plucked the harvest that had grown hope in our hearts as much as it had grown food for our bellies.
And we smiled. And laughed.
And delighted in the immense joy this little garden had brought.
Right when we needed it.

Genesis 1:31
And then God looked upon all He had made, and indeed, it was very good!

We are thankful for technology and ability to continue to stay connected to some kiddos and their families who we’ve walked alongside for many years.
Little Miss K is 12 years old now (!!) and despite her diagnosis of microcephaly, she continues to amaze her single mom and brother with her determined spirit.
Life is not easy for K and her family, especially since evacuating, and so we are thankful to hear from them. We’d ask you to pray for strength, wisdom and provision as they navigate so much each day.

In September, the U.N. security council gave authorization for a renewed “gang suppression force” to tackle the ever growing issue of gang violence in Haiti. This expanded force will have the ability to arrest gang members, which the current Kenya-led force does not have.
The two countries sponsoring this expanded effort are the United States and Panama.

After a recent visit to Haiti, United Nation’s expert on human rights in Haiti, William O-Neill, said, “We’re in a place now where the next few months are going to be crucial, and I think it can turn around. Haiti has a chance now to tackle pervasive gang violence with a U.S. initiated international force starting to deploy and a prime minister committed to providing alternatives for young gang members.”
(This new force is expected to start in April 2026)

**1 year.**

Please be praying for our HCH family and our entire community today.
There is deep grief there, and a quiet, aching pain in the long waiting for this exodus to end.

It has been one year since they were forced to flee their homes.

They left behind everything—
their clothes, cooking pots, beds, Bibles and hymnals, family photos… everything.

Homes they had just paid a year’s rent for,
or had finally completed—after 15 years of saving—placing a solid roof overhead.

Their pregnant goats-carrying the hope of next year’s school fees.

Their gardens—tended with care to feed their families,
and to sell what remained just to survive.

Their neighborhood—where life was shared in quiet partnership:
the produce seller and the baker,
the shoe seller and the clothing merchant.

Their church family—
where they prayed and praised,
wept together and lifted one another up.

Their city—
familiar faces,
markets alive with color, noise, and hope,
the mango tree by the yellow school bending over the wall to offer its fruit,
the woman roasting corn on the corner,
voices greeting one another with a simple “bonjour.”

All of it. Gone.

And still, God sees.
He has not forgotten.
He remains close to the brokenhearted.

So we pray—for strength, for provision, for restoration—
and for the day when what was lost will be redeemed.

16 years later…

This is a follow-up story of a child adopted from HCH who joined his forever family in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake.

No matter where life has taken them or what they are doing, it’s incredible to witness how Haitian children are accomplishing truly amazing things—each story reflecting the resilience, grit, and determination so deeply woven into their roots.

Above all, we see the faithfulness of God in their lives—guiding their steps, restoring what was broken, and calling them into the purpose He has prepared for them.
