Four Years Today.

Four years ago, our world changed.

In early February 2021, Kyle started experiencing off-and-on symptoms that didn’t seem too concerning at first. Then, during a routine eye appointment on March 11th, doctors noticed elevated pressure in both optic nerves. They decided to monitor it and reevaluate at his next visit.

But the very next morning—March 12th—Kyle woke up feeling dizzy and unwell. We took him to the emergency room at Golisano Children’s Hospital, where further evaluation revealed a malignant non-germinomatous germ cell tumor on his pineal gland. Immediate surgery was necessary to place a shunt and relieve the pressure on his brain.

The past four years have been a journey of resilience, strength, and hope. Kyle has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy, over 30 rounds of radiation, a craniotomy to remove the entire tumor, and several rounds of monoclonal antibody treatments. He has relearned how to walk, built back his strength, and now works out several days a week, boxes once a week, and balances school while working

His most recent MRI scans are clear and incredibly encouraging, and we remain optimistic that he is completely cured.
