Dear Representatives:

THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION! THIS IS A CHALLENGE TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO HELP ROCHESTER BUSINESS OWNERS!

The time has come for you to ACT and ACT now for our small business owners and their employees. The assistance to date through PPP, Cares Act, Grants, SBA and other small gestures is not enough!

What have you done on a local level to give serious help to the businesses of Rochester and Olmsted County?

How many of you have ever owned business and had to make payroll? If you did you know how hard it would be during these troubling times. If you didn’t please try to imagine that all you've worked for may be lost through no fault of your own.

The formation of a local "Business Coalition" has begun. The distribution of a "Petition For Real Action” is circulating. People are watching, waiting, and suffering. People will not wait any longer for your help.

Our request is simple. It’s time to start running our City and County like a business and your business has NO MONEY! Inaction will give you NO TAX BASE AT ALL!

We need the City and County to reduce excessive spending through budget cuts in order to substantially reduce Real Estate Taxes. We will not accept government operating as if the business community is immune to the impacts of the pandemic and shutdowns.

These budget cuts will enable the City and County to reduce the excess Real Estate Taxes that hurting business owners cannot pay. Real Estate Taxes for 2021 have increased excessively and that increase is paid by the small business owners. Who can pay an unreasonable and inaccurate tax when they can’t even make payroll, pay rent or a mortgage?

Rochester and Olmsted County Tax increases are burdensome for businesses, property owners, renters and employees. With the Pandemic, the reduction in consumer spending, the declines in revenues and profits, businesses cannot afford property tax increases, and new taxes and fees from the City and County.

Due to the Pandemic and the inability of a fair hearing to confront these issues we need you to take these actions at once!

Workers lives and jobs are at stake. They need their hours restored, wages increased, health benefits, and a way to pay their bills.

Which of you will stand up for them? Which of you will be a leader for the business owners and workers of Rochester?

WHAT IS NEEDED:

An immediate Emergency City Council and County Meeting that will do the following:

Amend the 2021 City and County Budgets for large reductions Across The Board-
Halt all hiring-
Substantial Reduction of Force- all departments-
Offer Early Retirements-
Implement Furloughs-
Place a Moratorium on ALL Non-Essential Projects-
Reduction of County and City Real Estate Taxes for 2021

Sincerely,

Rochester Business Coalition
