🩵 Accepting Adoption Applications: Wren 🩵

Her babies are growing up and finding their families… now it’s Mama Wren’s turn.

Wren was found abandoned in Waller County with her puppies, Briggs, Sutter, and Marlow, before they were brought to safety by Waller County Animal Control. Since then, she has watched her little family thrive. Briggs and Marlow have already found their forever homes, and Sutter has an application pending.

Now we’re hoping someone will choose the sweet mama who started it all.

At only about 15 pounds, Wren is the perfect compact companion. She may be a mom, but don’t let that fool you—this little black-and-tan beauty is full of youthful, playful energy! She loves romping around with the dogs in her foster home, including dogs much bigger than she is.

According to her foster family, Wren is a “cuddler, fireball, and sweetheart.”

When she’s not playing, she’s happy to curl up beside you for a nap. And when her people come home? Get ready for the cutest welcome committee around! Wren gets so excited she runs over to greet them with happy little nibbles and wiggles.

The dogs went on vacation… and Elvira isn’t exactly missing them. 😹

While her foster family’s dogs are away, Elvira is enjoying the peaceful life she’s always dreamed about. More naps. More window watching. More laser pointer time. Less dog drama.

This gorgeous brown tabby is cat friendly and loves people, especially men. Give her some chin scratches and a sunny window, and she’s one happy girl.

What Elvira is really hoping for is a forever home where she won’t have to share her space with dogs. She’s thriving during this temporary dog-free staycation, and we’d love to find her a permanent version of it.

❤️🐾 TUESDAY TIPS FOR TAILS..

I AIN’T REALLY MISBEHAVING - I’M JUST DOING WHAT DOGS DO!

What we may label as bad behaviour is often nothing more than a dog behaving exactly as nature designed them to.

Dogs are not born understanding human rules, household etiquette or the expectations we place on them.
They don't automatically know that some things are not meant to be chewed, that food left on a countertop is strictly off-limits or that they’re expected to walk calmly on a leash.

When we bring dogs into our lives, we expect them to automatically adapt to a world that is not naturally theirs.
We confine them to houses and yards, expect them to fit into our busy schedules, keep quiet and ignore the countless natural temptations that surround them every day.

When we view behaviour through this lens, frustration should begin to give way to understanding.

Understanding behaviour does not mean allowing dogs to do whatever they want. It means recognizing that behaviour serves a purpose and is fulfilling a need.

Instead of punishing a dog for behaving naturally, we can guide them towards behaviours that are acceptable. We can prevent rehearsal of unwanted behaviour, teach new skills, meet their physical, emotional and social needs, and provide appropriate outlets for their natural needs.

Dogs who are given opportunities to sniff, explore, chew, forage, play, problem-solve and engage with their environment are far better equipped to cope with the expectations placed on them.

The more we understand why dogs do what they do, the more successful we can become at helping them navigate our human world.

When we stop viewing every unwanted behaviour as misbehaviour and start seeing it as communication, we shift from trying to control our dogs to supporting and meeting their needs.

One of the greatest gifts we can give our dogs is our understanding.

Sure, I get along with dogs. Cats don’t bother me either. I can happily live as your one-and-only pet or share my home with furry siblings.

But if given the choice?

I’m choosing my human every single time.
