Our season ended yesterday, and it's always a bitter-sweet moment for me...
Coaching a baseball team is an all consuming activity, from team selection through the mountain of minutae to managing "game day" activities. Then, seemingly blindsided, the season ends. What makes it worthwhile is loving the game and having great kids to coach. We had great kids this year!
First - I would like to thank all of our parents.
We had a WONDERFUL group of parents this year. Supremely supportive from beginning to end. I asked the boys to write you a "Thank You" letter, and I hope they have delivered it to you by now. They don't have the opportunity to play this great game without your constant juggling act to make it all work.
Second - I would like to thank the players.
This is not an easy game and there are so many dimensions of the game to learn if you want to be successful on game day. Our success is measured visibly in "head-to-head" competition, but it measured less visibly by the personal growth we see from beginning of year to the last pitch. Everyone got better, learned more, and was more competitive over the course of the season. The goal is to GET BETTER EVERY DAY - LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY! The players that worked with focus and intent improved the most - that's no surprise and thats how life works in most cases.
Third - I NEED to thank the Coaches.
Paul & Kyle both know what a collborative effort this is, and it isn't possible without that support. Jason & Aaron were a huge help on game day too! Susan Link was the icing on this cake making the entire experience sweeter still.
Whether you are a returning player or one leaving for some other endeavor, I thank you for your contribution to this team's efforts. Everyone played a role in what we accomplished. It's as important to be a GOOD TEAMMATE as it is to be a GOOD PLAYER...always remember that.
Players - you will be as good at this game as you want to work at it. Our expressed goal from the beginning was to prepare you to be a starting player on your High School team. You have another five years until that time comes. If you love it, keep working hard at it and you will achieve that goal.
"Players: Motivation comes & goes. Some days you work until you can't. Other days, you don't feel it at all. That's when your discipline comes in. Learn to be so disciplined that your mottivation level won't factor into your work. Keep going hard, especially when you don't want to." Jon Beck
Finally - I highly encourage all kids to play other sports!
Football, Basketball, Soccer - all help you develop as an athlete. Don't waste your time on video games, GET OUT AND PLAY! Spend time with your friends - you are only a kid for such a very short time...
Enjoy the rest of your Summer!
Coach Borowski
PS - I absolutely LOVE the gift from the team. It's the best gift a coach could want to remember the year we shared together! I also included a photo of the wrapping because whoever did that deserves special commendation as well.
We relish the memories we collect along the way - the "high moments" of throwing that first breaking ball, to the "low moments" when we tried to catch the ball with our face?
That's Baseball - That's Life.
