January 2026 was officially proclaimed Stop Impaired Driving Month in Michigan, recognizing the ongoing need to address impaired, drugged, and drunk driving statewide. We’re grateful to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for highlighting our critical work and spreading awareness.
We are especially proud to spotlight Sue Strong, Program Manager for MADD Michigan - New | MADD Ohio, representing Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at the Proclamation Signing alongside partners dedicated to lifesaving change.

Brian Swift, impaired driving victim and National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving - NASID; Sue Strong, Program Manager MI|OH, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD); Sheriff Michael Poulin, Muskegon County Sheriff's Office; Craig Ryan, AAA The Auto Club Group of AAA Michigan;
and Martin Johnston, Legislative Director.
The event also recognized The Swift Law, named in honor of Brian Swift’s parents—Barbara J. & Thomas J. Swift—and connected to Michigan’s oral‑fluid roadside testing Senate Bill efforts.
Today, I met with families whose lives were forever changed by impaired driving. Their stories are heartbreaking and a powerful reminder that every decision behind the wheel matters. Let’s all do our part to keep each other safe on the road.
