"A big brother is a combination of a father, a friend, and a superhero all in one." ~Unknown

Hirsch (JC: Crazy Legs Hirsh)
Paz (JC: Anything Pazible)
Hunter (JC: Hyperspeed)
Connie (’24, by Bobby’s Wicked One)

It’s crazy how this happened. We have no idea how or why, but these three (including our two racetrack war horses) brought this sweet baby into their fold and it’s like it’s always been this way.

The good news about Connie is she is fairly independent and has some little bonds with others, like Millie and Abner, but her boys are her boys and they love her.

The other day Hirsch got a little agitated because he couldn’t see her up near the barn and he called out (he is otherwise totally Silent Bob) and she came running, then the two headed out to find the other two for some grazing time.It is so very sweet…

Since yesterday haven’t received any donations toward our June hay fundraiser and our total raised stands at $830, $5,170 from goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated already and to everyone we know who still will.

"Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it." ~Russell Baker

It was hot today… summer has arrived and it’s only going to get hotter. So…

Fly mask on? We don’t care! Fly boots? No big deal. Nothing gets in the way of us cooling off!

Everyone (who wanted one) started the day out with a cool shower and ended the day with one. They really ask for so little and it’s the little things like this that keep them happy.Sound up!

Since yesterday we raised another $250 toward our June hay fundraiser to bring our total to $830, $5,170 from goal. Thank you to our friend Bob Ike, we appreciate you so much.

Will you help us get to goal? June gets underway in a few hours! All donations are tax deductible, too.

Thank you, thank you!

"Life's better when you're rinsed and refreshed." ~Unknown

A little Saturday stuff around the farm…

Clarence the mostly blind pony got the most luxurious bath from our sweet volunteers Chloe and Katie. Doesn’t he look great? Of course we put his mask and boots on him and sent him back out to pasture and he immediately went and rolled in the dirt. But he got the bath he needed.

Abner (JC: Shack’s Way), Gracie (JC: Gracie’s Kitten) and Atticus (JC: Speedactus) also got baths and were tidied up… AND we got Atticus’s boots and mask on and as of this writing they are still on. We shall see what the morning brings in this department. But he is so handsome, especially when he’s clean.

I’m hoping to get more done tomorrow and this week to add to the ones we already did so everyone’s spring bath is complete. We don’t bathe a ton, we normally just hose, but it’s nice to tidy everyone up for the summer. They pretend they don’t love it, but I know they like to be clean.

Then our hay guy brought more hay, thankfully, which we are still fundraising to pay for.

Since yesterday we raised another $100 toward our June hay fundraiser to bring our total to $580, $5,420 from goal. Thank you Carol, we appreciate you.

Will you help us get to goal? All donations are tax deductible, too.

Thank you, thank you!

“I love an iconic hairstyle.” ~Billie Lourd

So Atticus (JC: Speedactus)… officially now our longest tenured resident.

Unfortunately, they don’t make boots or masks he can’t get off in a New York minute. I’m working out how to get him to keep them on still and I am confident I will fix his little red wagon in this department.

Tonight, however, Atticus needs some help. He has asked me to ask you all to help name his new little friend, the grapefruit sized mud clod stuck in his mane.

Of course he won’t let me get to it because when he shakes his head and it flaps around it spooks him and he thinks I am trying to get him to run.

So until his favorite person comes this weekend to help bathe him and clean him up and remove said mud clod, it needs a name.

My suggestion: Mudge.

Anyway…

Since yesterday we raised another $210 toward our June hay fundraiser to bring our total to $380, $5,620 from goal. Thank you Katherine, Teresa, Sarah and Wish in NY.

Will you help us get to goal? All donations are tax deductible, too.

Thank you, thank you!

"Tell your friend that in his death, a part of you dies and goes with him. Wherever he goes, you also go. He will not be alone." ~Jiddu Krishnamurti

Clarence the mostly blind pony… what a remarkable creature.

Someday before long when it doesn’t hurt so much I will tell you all what this boy did for George when he left. He and George were friends, Clarence and Chuck (his seeing-eye donkey) were our fourth and fifth residents and they maintained their bond until the very end. Clarence wasn’t about to let George go without letting him know he loved him. It was both heartbreaking and touching.

I didn’t ask for boots or a mask in Clarence’s size (and the ones I did order were too small), but shoutout to whoever remembered him in the sea of need for the thoroughbreds. He has them on now and after a little adjustment he’s much more comfortable tonight.

So thank you. I am beyond grateful for all of the masks and boots.

Since yesterday we raised another $120 toward our June hay fundraiser to bring our total to $170, $5,830 from goal. Thank you Kate, Cynthia and Jane.

All donations are tax deductible, too.

Thank you, thank you!

"When you smell of horse and hay... you know you've had a successful day!" ~Unknown (might as well be me!)

Hay days are the best days… we have a storm incoming tonight so our awesome hay guy brought a bunch of rounds and everyone dove right in (while others cleaned up the leftovers from the last.

These will last about five days, having access to 24/7 forage is good for everyone and keeps everyone happy. So this is the perfect time to launch our June hay and feed fundraiser.

With fuel prices skyrocketing everything we buy has gone up and by a pretty good amount. So we’re fixing our goal at $6,000 this month and we already received $50 from our friend Jana!

Will you help us reach our hay goal so we can pay our hay guy? We’d be so grateful…

All donations are tax deductible, too. Thank you, thank you!

Ya’ll!

Operation fly mask/fly boots is just about complete!

Clarence the pony needs a smaller mask and small boots and we’re shy just a couple pairs of boots, but everyone has a mask!

We had some more funny reactions to the boots and some who I thought would react didn’t at all (Jennie I am talking to you!) and they’re all staying on (for the most part).

Thanks again, everyone. Because I didn’t have to worry about this expense I was able to take care of a full day of farrier work rather than part and parcel it, and I was also also buy some other little things I had been putting off.

You all helped make these wonderful critters much more comfortable and that means everything to me, so thank you.

Now if we could just get it to be NOT muddy for a while.

Have a look at some of them today. Aren’t they so funny? Oh how I love them…

05/23/2026

Three years ago this shy, quiet, reserved kid appeared at our gates and wanted to help. He knew nothing about horses and even less about taking care of them (and it took him a month to not call me “the lady”) but virtually every weekend for the past three years he showed up, on time (almost always) and did anything and everything we ever asked of him. Without complaint.

Heat, cold, rain… it didn’t matter, Jake was here. And through it all we watched him grow up to become a remarkable young man.

He found running as a hobby, collected a great group of loyal friends (many of which helped out here, too, from time to time - Jason, Rhiley and Jayden I’m talking to you) and most importantly we got to know Jake as the kind, witty and easy-going kid who likes chicken fingers and Oreo cookies. Oh and we found out he really likes to dance.

Tonight, Jake graduated from high school and we were honored to be in the stands to cheer him on.

Jake, we know we’re not going to have you with us much longer, but you will always be part of our family and we know you won’t be far. We are so very proud of you and the man you’ve become and we can’t wait to see what your future holds.

A chicken finger celebration with us is in your near future!

Congratulations, Jake. We love you!
