The Adai were living in what is now northwestern Louisiana formally the Texas territory long before the United States and first recorded by the first European Spaniard exploring North America, Alvar Núnez Cabeza de Vaca when first visiting the Adai territory in 1529. Consequently, almost 200 years passed before the Adai encountered any additional contact with Europeans. When official contact was r

eestablished with Spain in 1690, the competition of nearby French territorial claims spurred the Spanish to establish six Indian missions among tribes of Texas including a presence near the Adai. Michael of the Adai and established the Presidio de Los Adais again using the tribal name to show friendship, trade and military alliances with the tribe, the Presidio served as the Capital of Texas for almost 50 years, and has its historical presence recognized as a National State Park, and is located on its original site within 5 miles of the Adai Indian Nation Cultural Center and Community.

Do you or your ancestors hail from Spanish Lake? Niette, Nette, Flores, O'Con, Solice, Mora, Bustamento, Pleasant, Rosales, Caro? If you are a Mora or descend from one, you won't want to miss this.

We will cover the history of the lake, its names throughout history, its size, location, when it disappeared, why, and who owns what's left of it.

"Spanish Lake" is its current name, but not its original name (or second or third name).

The Tribal Council is now accepting applications for the Adai Caddo Princess for the 2026-2027 year, now through June 30th. Our Council of Elders will carefully review each applicant. The new princess will be announced on July 10th and will be officially crowned at our Annual Pow Wow on October 17, 2026.

As Princess of the Adai Caddo Nation you will act as an ambassador for the tribe with the responsibility of representing us and yourself in the most respectable and honorable manner. We are looking for outgoing, intelligent, confident young ladies who are excited to represent our tribe. As an elected Tribal Princess, you will be required to attend our annual pow ow and a minimum of one other fundraising function per year. You may also be asked to represent the tribe at local parades, pow wows, exhibitions, demonstrations, and dances hosted by other tribes and organization. You must be willing to appear in media press releases and/or tv interviews.

Applications are open to all girls who are between the ages 13 – 19. Applications must be sent via email to Tina Fentress at [email protected].

Our Council of Elders will carefully review each applicant and select our next Princess. The announcement and crowning of our new Princess will be made at our annual pow wow.

All Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Complete and submit the princess application

• Must be 13 to 19 years of age

• Must be enrolled in school or have high school diploma (or equivalent)

• Must be an enrolled tribal member in good standing.
