Source Song Festival

Source Song Festival Source is Minnesota's generative force in song. As its name implies, Source is a generative force.

It re-imagines the song festival by not only delivering fresh and innovative concerts, recitals and master classes, but more importantly by empowering and inspiring a new generation of musicians- composers, performers and audience members alike- through the creation of new works, the initiating of conversation, and the fostering of relationships within Minnesota’s vibrant community. It re‐imagines the song festival by not only delivering fresh and innovative concerts, recitals and masterclasses, but more importantly by empowering and inspiring a new generation of musicians-‐ composers, performers and audience members alike-‐ through the creation of new works, the initiating of conversation, and the fostering of relationships within Minnesota’s vibrant community. How We Fulfill Our Mission

Source serves pianist & singer duos through MNDuo: a 5-day institute with masterclasses and recitals by international artists, the chance to work closely with an established, local song composer, coachings with locally-based, world-class artists, and performance opportunities to give performers the tools required to further their own personal artistic vision, and strengthen song performers throughout the state. Source serves song writers and art song composers through MNSong: a 5-day intensive workshop lead by composers Libby Larsen and David Evan Thomas created to instruct and inspire composers through private lessons, the opportunity to work with professional musicians on your songs, and events focusing on publishing, legal matters, and text setting. It is sure to be an invaluable experience for those whose craft is wedding text to music. Source serves audiences through public master classes, lectures, and workshops, along with thoughtfully engaging concerts and recitals all working together to create a complete experience for the listener, offering them all the tools to hone their critical and analytical skills, as well as broadening their musical palette through an intensive 7 days of unique programming. Who We Are

Source began over the Atlantic Ocean as an idea between pianist Mark Bilyeu & Clara Osowski, mezzo-soprano, on their way back home to Minneapolis after a summer of song festivals across the globe. Inspired by their time working with world-class mentors, they asked themselves “why did we have to do all this traveling when there is so much talent right in our own backyard?” Since that question, Source has created an experience for duos, composers, and audience members that will strengthen the community where they live, love, and continue to learn.

Thank you for the music, Felicity! ❤️

Everyone at Wigmore Hall is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of legendary soprano Dame Felicity Lott.

Felicity Lott had a particularly close association with Wigmore Hall, appearing here as a much-loved artist for over 50 years, receiving the Wigmore Hall Medal in February 2010 for her exceptional contribution to the Hall, and more recently serving as a Trustee. A founder member of The Songmakers’ Almanac, she appeared on major recital platforms around the world, and built her formidable international reputation in opera as an interpreter of the great roles of Mozart and Strauss.

Lott devised the Wigmore French Song Exchange with François de la Roux and John Gilhooly, a programme now in its sixth year in partnership with École Normale de Musique de Paris, and also served on multiple occasions as a member of the jury for the Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition.

You can read our full tribute to Dame Felicity Lott on the Wigmore Hall website.

Thank you, Icehouse MPLS. Thank you for keeping the arts in our community, and always thinking of our neighbors first.

Thank you to all who have reached out to offer support and the show of solidarity. Also, thank you the many volunteers who have been out there to help cleanup the area, keep the streets safe, offer a shoulder to others and the countless other forms of kindness.

We are all suffering emotionally and financially from this. For now, please do all you can to support the immigrant owned business around town and especially on Eat Street. There are so many amazing family run businesses on Nicollet Ave who have been here for much longer than Icehouse and are the ones who created all that this great street has to offer. They are also the ones who are struggling the most with being able to safely navigate the day-to-day logistics of running their respective businesses.

As for Icehouse, we will keep you posted on any event changes here as we take this day-by-day with each artist and do what feels most comfortable with each passing day.
