Two hundred and fifty years ago, these words were adopted and sent to King George of England:

When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

Scouts! Need conservation hours? Help remove invasive mustard plants in Robbinsdale’s Sochacki Park this Tuesday!

Garlic mustard is an invasive plant that is quickly spreading in Sochacki Park! Help us remove it at our upcoming volunteer event:

◾Where: Sochacki Park (meet at the parking lot at 3049 June Ave N)
◾Date: Tuesday, June 16
◾Time: 5:00-7:00 PM

Please bring water and wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty!

When they bring up Flag Day thinking we don't know ball.
Oh buddy... WE. KNOW. BALL. 🇺🇸

The Second Continental Congress established the first official flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. Since then, there have been 27 official versions of the U.S. flag and eight of them are flown over Fort McHenry for different events and commemorations. Our favorite? The Star-Spangled Banner, of course! The Flag Act of 1794, changed the flag design to include fifteen stripes and fifteen stars, reflecting the addition of Vermont and Kentucky to the Union. It was this version that Francis Scott Key saw so gallantly streaming over Fort McHenry and inspired him to write our national anthem.

Fun fact: the Star-Spangled Banner was the only official U.S. flag to have more than thirteen stripes! The Flag Act of 1818 created the current rule, declaring that the flag would always have thirteen horizontal stripes representing the original colonies while the number of stars would match the current number of states. Could you imagine a flag with 50 stars AND 50 stripes?!

We took a little 10-mile jaunt down the St. Croix River Saturday. Beautiful weather for a paddle, followed by homemade chicken alfredo for dinner (instead of roast duck decoy as found at our lunch spot).
