This Saturday, June 13, 2026, we'll have our monthly Climare Crisis Watch. I was moved to this, 2nd, Saturday of the month to allow 3 members of the leadership to attend the blade signing celebration of the Rocky Forge Wind Farm on North Mountain in Botetourt County. Please join us Saturday at 11 am for as long as you are able and willing to stay. We end the demonstration for clean energy and climate action at noon.

Steve Bull's analysis of our energy-environment dilemma is thorough and, as far as I can see, flawless. He doesn't mention data centers but if you read this you'll see how they'll only accelerate our decline.

"'hurdles' as: massive ecologically-destructive mining for its mineral/material inputs; vast land-use change and habitat fragmentation caused by its buildout; significant embodied hydrocarbon inputs; water use for cleaning in arid regions; toxic chemical use in polysilicon purification; dependence upon finite resources; forced labour in Xinjiang’s polysilicon supply chain; and the challenge of managing millions of tonnes of panel waste. Social costs like displacement, impacts on pastoralists, and the sacrifice zones of quartz and silver mining are rendered invisible under a 'clean and green energy' banner."

We’re Saved! Massive Buildout of Solar Photovoltaic Energy!

When Trump leaves office the other top economies will likely have left us in the dust with making progress toward renewables.

Clean energy gains vary widely across major economies since 2015, with Europe leading and countries like India and Russia trailing.

Globally, March was the hottest March ever recorded, In SWVA, we’ve had 3 days, Apr. 15, 16, and 18th over 90º already this month, and we’re in a prolonged drought, and so is 80% of the country. There have been 365 reported tornadoes in the United States this year, and on April 4 there were three dozen of them in seven different states. All this is the face of climate change, the direction is a warming world and more extreme weather. That is the science. Seven hundred and fifty-one authors from over 60 countries reviewed over 14,000 peer-reviewed studies and concluded this in the UN’s IPCC Sixth Assessment Report.
The most depressing part of it all is that our government blatantly disregards this science.

“Data Centers in Virginia: Webinar and Public Forum” on April 2 from 6-7:30 pm featuring Dr. Mary Finley-Brooke (University of Richmond) and Tim Ciwinsky (Sierra Club). These two have been doing great work in the areas of data center social and environmental impact accountability and resistance at the local, state, and national levels with community-led policy and legislative interventions. This event will take place over zoom and the registration link is included in the attached flyer, and can also be accessed via the QR code included in the flyer. The speakers will be doing a collaborative presentation followed by public Q and A/discussion.
