This thing on? ;)

We've been a little quieter about what's happening behind the scenes at Art Project Roanoke. Not because nothing's happening.

We've been asking questions, listening to the people already doing the work, and thinking about what it really takes to help a creative community thrive.

Turns out, it's a lot about the stuff in between.

We've got a new Board Chair, some fresh perspective, and a clearer idea of where we're headed.

We wrote about it all in our update. 👇

Next Tuesday, we’re hosting the Roanoke Foodshed Network All Partner Meeting, and this one has an art theme! Well, fancy that! 🎨

It’s an honor to work alongside organizations that not only do significant work but emphasize the importance of creativity and connection while doing it. We believe these approaches broaden the impact and ultimately strengthen the engagement with the humans carrying out their mission.

This meeting is open to all community members — just make sure you register.

SIGN UP SIGN UP - it’s a FREE lantern-making workshop by Jane Gabrielle at Scrap Collective thanks to the Arts Connect Neighbors program. This is in preparation for the Oct 24 Old Southwest Inc. Lantern Parade but you don’t have to be able to attend the parade to come and make art with your neighbors!!! Let’s get spooky season started a little early (maybe it’ll cast a cooling spell on these summer temps!!!) Dropping the link to reg in the ol’ profile.

Created during a two-month summer fellowship at Hollins University, this show is Mujdah Rasikh’s exploration of fabric, the body, and the space between concealment and revelation. Working with chiffon hijabs and fabric draped over forms, Mujdah uses softness and movement to build figures that seem caught between appearing and disappearing.

Join us for the opening reception tomorrow, September 4th, 5:30–8pm at APR’s Side Gallery. On view through September 30th.
