July is Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of people with disabilities while recognizing that disability is a natural part of the human experience.

The fight for civil rights has always included the fight for disability rights. Too often, those conversations happen in separate spaces, even though many members of our community live at the intersection of multiple identities. People of Color . Disabled. LGBTQ+. Veteran. Immigrant. Elder. Youth. Our identities do not exist in isolation, and neither should our advocacy.

The Roanoke Branch NAACP proudly stands with the disability community and reaffirms our commitment to building a movement where accessibility, inclusion, and justice are not afterthoughts, but expectations. We know that barriers to education, employment, healthcare, housing, transportation, and civic participation disproportionately impact people with disabilities and others living at the intersections of marginalized identities.

This Disability Pride Month, we celebrate every person who continues to challenge stereotypes, advocate for equity, and remind us that true justice leaves no one behind.

When we make our communities more accessible, we make them stronger for everyone.

Happy Disability Pride Month.

YOUR VOICE. YOUR VOTE. YOUR POWER.

The Roanoke Branch NAACP encourages every eligible voter to make a plan to participate in the upcoming Democratic Primary Election.

If you need to register to
Vote, reach out to any branch member and we will assist you!

Election Day: Tuesday, August 4, 2026
Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Important Deadlines
July 24, 2026 – Last day to register to vote or update your voter registration for the August Primary.
Early voting is available through Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Did You Know?
Virginia has an open primary system. This means any registered voter may choose to vote in the Democratic Primary, regardless of party affiliation. However, you may vote in only one party’s primary during the same election.

Before you head to the polls:
Visit the Virginia Department of Elections https://www.elections.virginia.gov/

• Register to vote or update your registration
• Check your voter registration status
• Find your polling place
• Learn more about voting in Virginia

The right to vote is one of our most powerful tools for creating change. The NAACP has fought for generations to protect that right, and we encourage every eligible voter to exercise it.

When we vote, we strengthen our democracy. When we vote, our voices are heard.

The Department of Elections envisions an electoral process that is trustworthy and accountable at all levels and engages Virginia’s diverse citizenry in the most fundamental right - the right to vote.
