Girls Rock Roanoke empowers girls and women through music, creative expression, and collaboration, and supports them in making positive change in their own lives and in their communities. At Girls Rock Roanoke camp, girls ages 8-16 will form bands, write their own songs, and perform at a final Showcase. They also participate in workshops on women’s music history, Self defense, screen printing, DIY
clothing, body confidence, stage presence, teamwork, songwriting, tech talk, and more. During lunch time campers get to listen to guest music artists and have dance parties. Girls Rock Roanoke aims to support girls as they develop self-confidence, amplify their voices, and fully realize their power to make a difference in the world. Camp activities and volunteers create a nurturing space that fosters creativity, communication, collaboration, and inclusivity. Girls Rock Roanoke also provides opportunities for GRR volunteers and staff to develop leadership, teaching and facilitation skills through their participation in GRR camps. For more information on volunteer opportunities, please contact us through Facebook or email. Girls Rock Roanoke celebrates local Southwest Virginia talent by inviting area folks to lead workshops and perform for our campers. We hope that an additional outcome of Girls Rock Roanoke camps is increased public awareness of our local musicians, and an open and supportive environment for women in music. Girls Rock Roanoke is open to all youths who identify as female, transgender, or gender non-conforming, regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, ethnicity, size and/or ability. No musical experience or instruments are necessary to participate in our programs.
