The Compassionate Friends - Roanoke Valley Chapter

The Compassionate Friends - Roanoke Valley Chapter The Compassionate Friends Roanoke Chapter #2109 Today more than 640 chapters serving all 50 states plus Washington D.C.

The Compassionate Friends was founded over 40 years ago when a chaplain at the Warwickshire Hospital in England brought together two sets of grieving parents and realized that the support they gave each other was better than anything he, as a chaplain, could ever say or provide. Meeting around a kitchen table, the Lawleys and the Hendersons were joined by a bereaved mother and the chaplain, Simon

Stephens, and The Society of the Compassionate Friends was born. The Compassionate Friends jumped across the ocean and was established in the United States and incorporated in 1978 in Illinois. Each chapter, along with the supporting National Office, is committed to helping every bereaved parent, sibling, or grandparent who may walk through our doors or contact us. and Puerto Rico offer friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents, and other family members during the natural grieving process after a child has died. Around the world more than 30 countries have a Compassionate Friends presence, encircling the globe with support so desperately needed when the worst has happened.

On the second Sunday in December, the Compassionate Friends created a worldwide candle lighting event. The candles are lit at 7pm in each time zone around the world. Looking down from Heaven you can see a ring of light around the world, remembering our children, siblings, and grandchildren who have gone to soon. Tonite, I once again light my candle in loving memory of our son Andy, who was gone too soon...
I will love you always, Andy.
Love, Mom

Today our local Chapter of The Compassionate Friends where able to do our annual Walk. We were not able to meet in person last year. So thankful for all of these friends. I needed them when Andy died. And they have supported me this year with the loss of Gary Cameron. On our last full day together Gary helped with the road cleanup for Adopt a Highway that our chapter does. This is a very special group of folks. We know that grief has no season but together we help each other to keep on keeping on. Special thanks to all who made today special.
I love you all.❤️💕

Remembering Andy tonight by lighting his candle during the World Wide Candle Lighting Event. Enjoyed a small intimate get together with TCF Chapter members. We lit the candles representing grief, courage, memories, Love, and hope. Tinker Bell sat quietly with me.

Enjoying this beautiful evening on our porch. I was talking with my friends -- thankful for technology--and 2 birds just couldn't stay away! My thought was that the birds were messengers from Heaven. My Dad and Andy. Or possibly Andy and a child of one of the Compassionate Friends I was speaking with. Either way I felt blessed to have those 2 birds so excited to join my friends and I. They left after our group conversation ended.
Its so peaceful out here. Im thankful for my Compassionate Friends. So good to finally see them again! Looking forward to moving this chapter technology forward! COVID will not keep us down! We have survived a fate worse than death! We will follow the guidelines and overcome! Wearing a mask is a piece of cake compared to what we have experienced! 💕
