Last Saturday we held our 6th event. However, this one was like no other!

This time we partnered with CityWorksXpo to have a youth focused event. They hosted Youth (X)po during the day and youth were engaged in conversation about how to create change. Further, they were tasked with coming up with their own ideas for change.

Then, that evening, all six teams were invited to present at our event held at 5 Points Music Sanctuary. All six of them did incredibly well, especially when you think they had not worked together before!

At the end of the evening, the START idea was chosen in our closest ever contest. This team will focus on helping students learn life skills and the arts through after-school programs led by other youth. They will have over $1300 to launch their program.

It was truly a special evening that left everyone involved feeling good about the future of Roanoke.

Another great evening at Soaring Ridge Brewery! Around 300 people breaking bread with their neighbors and hearing 4 innovative ideas for community change. In the end, we were able to turn over $2800 to House of Bread, a new program to teach ex-offenders life skills through learning to bake and sell bread.

Thank you all for another electrifying and uplifting evening at Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers!

Last night, we packed the building with around 300 people for our 5th event focused on promoting innovative ideas to make Roanoke a better place. It was our biggest event yet! The energy and spirit was just phenomenal. It was just so heartwarming to see this community come together to create positive change.

We heard four great presentations from:
Hoot and Holler: Our Stories. Out Loud.
Roanoke Skatepark Initiative
Breast Roanoke
& House of Bread

Then, after some time to vote and enjoy some tremendous food from area restaurants, we were able to award our largest amount ever. We were privileged to be able to turn over $2800 to House of Bread to work with ex-offenders and teach them life skills while baking bread. We are so excited to see them grow from an idea to a reality in the upcoming months!

But none of it would have been possible without the Roanoke community being so giving! And that includes our incredible sponsors:
