Friends - a person making poor life choices is impersonating our very own Dan, sending emails from a spoof of the Roanoke Food Pantry's email address requesting money and/or Amazon gift cards.
This individual poses as Dan and spins a sad tale - "Amazon won't let me buy a gift card for my niece, will you buy it for me and I'll pay you back??" Like Dan, he or she wished to be generous ($200 for a birthday gift for his niece!). Unlike Dan, he or she has terrible grammar and is pretty pushy.
Friends, please remember:
- Dan won’t ever email you for money. Like - ever.
- Poor grammar is a give-away (and I’m not just talking about the Oxford comma).
- Don’t ever email personal or financial information without checking the source.
- Don’t click on links from “sus” emails (as the hip kids say).
Please share this with people you know who support the Food Pantry that may not be on Facebook. We want to ensure no one falls for this person’s scheme. (And yes, we’ve spoken to the police - as always, they were super helpful and responsive, but there isn’t anything they can do.)
