Troop 3 just returned from a very successful week at Camp Powhatan!

Our scouts were extremely busy! They all completed 4+ merit badges each (Henry did 8!) in topics such as First Aid, Swimming, Lifesaving, Shotgun Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Archery, Citizenship in the World, Emergency Preparedness, Woodcarving, Electronics, Geocaching, Music, Fingerprinting, Mammal Studies, and Photography.

In their limited free time, the scouts did a lot of fishing (and cooked them!), played sports, and made friends in other troops.

A huge thank you to Mike Pendleton for staying the week with us!

Pack 3 and Troop 3 had their end of the year Court of Honor this past Sunday, June 1.

Pack 3 had almost 20 Cub Scouts advancing! Five Lions, Six Tigers, Five Wolves, and Two Arrow of Light recipients! The Cubs also earned their NOVA Award for space and rocket science!

Troop 3 had all 8 Scouts advancing in rank- five earning Tenderfoot, three earning Second Class, and two earning First Class. They also earned merit badges in Citizenship in the Nation, Cycling, and Space Exploration.

Looking forward to a fun summer of Scouting and a big year next year!

Today the Scouts of Troop 3 visited the Poff Federal Courthouse to attend a Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony as part of their Citizenship in the Nation merit badge.

It was a beautiful ceremony and made us all very thankful to be citizens of this great country. We are also appreciative to Judge Urbanski for hosting us!

Troop 3 and Pack 3 braved the chilly weather for the Spring Trout-o-Ree at Camp Powhatan - we had a great time! Almost everyone caught some nice rainbow trout, Mike Pendleton was our guide extraordinaire and gave a great class on cutting up the fish, and our Scouts won some awards!

Wanted to share a spring update- we’ve had a busy couple months!

We went to the Salem Rodeo, hiked Reed Mountain, learned rock climbing at the Wasena climbing wall, and hiked in Fern Park!

We have some great activities coming up in the remainder of the spring- a Rocket Derby, spring Trout-o-Ree and Camporee, and our Court of Honor.

This is a slightly belated post, but at our last joint meeting, we were visited by Roanoke City EMS. The Cub Scouts got an in-depth tour of the ambulance, and the Boy Scouts got to review their First Aid knowledge with the paramedics!

Tonight we had a representative of Southwest Virginia Wildlife Rescue speak at our Pack/Troop Meeting- we learned a lot about wildlife rescue!

The highlight of the afternoon was seeing the animal ambassadors Rio the Eastern Box Turtle, Sammy the Brown Bat, and Zombie the Eastern Screech Owl.

Tonight we had a representative of Southwest Virginia Wildlife Rescue speak at our Pack/Troop Meeting- we learned a lot about wildlife rescue!
