Hi CarePortal Community! We wanted to remind everyone that the Roanoke Valley Trauma Informed Community Network (TICN) is hosting a free online Trauma Basics course today! These are excellent trainings and we encourage everyone to attend this training to help us love and serve our neighbors with greater understanding.

Please mark your calendar for the Isaiah 117 House Kick-Off event to be held at 3 pm on October 11, 2026 at Penn Forest Christian Church (3028 Penn Forest Blvd Roanoke, VA 24018). Isaiah 117 houses provide temporary transitional housing for kids entering foster care, to help provide comfort and love during this very stressful time. You can learn more here: https://linktr.ee/isaiah117houseroanokeva. This is really needed in our area. Kids entering foster care don't have great options right now during transitions when they are waiting on a placement to become ready. We are all very excited about this coming to the region!

We invite our Hispanic community to come hang with us at this event to connect with the Roanoke Police Department. This event will be family friendly with games and activities for kids. We will have our Hispanic police officers attending to help build connection and trust. Please help us spread the word and drop by for some coffee to connect! We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you Lighthouse Bible Church for hosting our CarePortal monthly chat yesterday! And thank you to everyone who came! There is power in the community coming together to help struggling kids and families and we are so grateful to all our churches, agencies, and partners who are an amazing network of support for them!

Donated Car Story Follow-Up!

A couple years ago, a family that attends Southwest Community Church donated their car to a homeless mom, who had no working vehicle, who was dealing with depression and had many barriers to overcome. Our church has stayed connected to this mom pouring love and encouragement into her and helping her with small things when we are able to help. She recently told me how awesome this donated car has been for her, and how grateful she is for it. Because of this vehicle she is able to care for her children in all the ways that teenagers and older elementary school kids need. She drives her oldest child to work every day, and she drives her daughter to school and can pick her up from after school care. She is healthier emotionally and recently completed classes to boost her resume and job skills. We can't fix everyone's problems, but having a means of transportation can accomplish a lot for the health of a family unit!

Hi CarePortal Community! We wanted to let you know about this awesome opportunity to worship and also support 127 Place, a ministry in our area that supports children and their families. They work closely with our CarePortal community often meeting needs as a dedicated Community Champion. Often, CarePortal churches work collaboratively with @127 Place to serve a family. 127 Place has helped us navigate challenging or complicated situations and in doing that has helped CarePortal have a greater impact in our community. We love this organization and we hope you will come out to listen to perform to support their efforts!

El faro connection center is a ministry dedicated to share God’s love with our community through words and service programs: Christian Counseling, Orientation in several areas, Clothing, Food , Banking , Legal, Health, Education, etc.
They connect the person in need with resources, they pray with them and keep contact with them. They have Bible study available to everyone. Their new location is the old Samaritan Inn building downtown. They need our help as the Christian community to help those in need around us, those the Lord is giving to them to minister.
