Kevin and I had to say good bye to our sweet Basil. He gave so much joy to the people in hospitals, nursing homes. When he had his vest on he knew it was time to go to work. He loved the children , He never met a stranger. I could say so much about him. But my heart is breaking. Thank you for all your visits, cards and calls.

Team of the month: Tony and Trooper!

This month, we are honored to recognize Therapets Team Tony Hernandez and his partner, Trooper. Many of you have likely seen this duo out in the community—brightening hallways, lifting spirits, and even making appearances in local news stories. Tony, a retired New York State Trooper, welcomed Trooper into his life in 2020, and together they officially became a Pet Partners team in 2023.

Since then, their impact has been nothing short of extraordinary. This dedicated team has completed 508 total visits, reaching 31,503 people with comfort, connection, and genuine kindness. Even more remarkable, in 2025 alone they have already completed 212 visits, sharing Trooper’s joy with 13,655 people.

This year, Trooper was named the 2025 Pet Partners Most Photogenic Therapy Animal of the Year and was proudly nominated for the 2025 Pet Partners Therapy Animal of the Year, finishing 11th nationwide—an achievement that speaks to the heart he brings into every interaction. Tony and Trooper have also been featured on local news and in the Roanoke Times five times, helping shine a light on the power of therapy animals.

We are profoundly grateful for Tony and Trooper and the dedication, and compassion they bring to every visit. Their work as ambassadors for Pet Partners has not only touched thousands of lives but has helped our local TheraPets organization flourish within the community.
