RAM House - Roanoke Area Ministries

RAM House - Roanoke Area Ministries RAM House's vision is to provide hope by preventing and alleviating homelessness and hunger in the Blue Ridge Region.

Roanoke Area Ministries doors are open 365 days a year from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Visit our website at http://www.raminc.org. For FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE call (540) 981-1732. Our Mission:
Roanoke Area Ministries (RAM) is an interfaith non-profit that advocates for those facing or are threatened by homelessness and hunger. Founded in 1971, our doors are open for those needing care coordination, day shelter services, meals, and emergency financial assistance. Our programs:

Emergency Financial Assistance: Unexpected things happen. A hospital visit, a leaky roof, sudden job loss, death of breadwinner. These are just some of the emergencies that can push a person teetering on the edge of homeless completely over the edge. RAM provides one time emergency financial assistance to help with utility bills, rent, deposits and life saving medications. RAM House Day Shelter: Since 1987, the RAM House Day Shelter has provided refuge from the elements and a place of comfort, acceptance and support for those most in need. We recognize the need for support during some of life's most trying times. Hot Noontime Meal: One in five children go hungry part of every month. Hunger can affect health, quality of life, and leave a person unable to face daily challenges. We serve a nutritious lunch, every day, to anyone who has need. RAM House has a clothes closet that is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays for our homeless guests to "shop" for their clothing needs. Homeless guests also have access to laundry facilities to help them maintain cleanliness. RAM networks with other agencies to help obtain state ID's for our homeless guests and to refer them for the services and other help they need to enable them to get off the streets and into a permanent home.

Progress isn’t just about getting someone off the street — it’s about helping them get to a place where they can move forward.

Mark’s story is a great example of that.

He’s working at Pizza Hut, maintaining his job, and now living much closer to work. That move has already opened the door for additional hours at another Pizza Hut location — and he’s looking ahead to even better employment opportunities.

This is why Recovery Services Director Danny Cox and Director of Employment Programming Kisha Hunter are so vital to the work at RAM House.

Recovery is an important first step. But helping someone become stable enough to work, keep a job, build confidence, and pursue better opportunities is part of lasting change.

We’re proud of Mark and the progress he’s making.

Compassion. Community. Change.

Thank you Gene Marrano - journalist, WFIR, and Wheeler Digital for covering this amazing ribbon cutting. It's all about getting people off the streets and into a better life!

The new larger space for the RAM House day shelter on Elm Avenue added several new employees as it geared up for a space that now has separate private rooms for health care needs, housing and job searches - and help for those battling a substance abuse issue that has kept them on the streets. GETTING IT DONE! 💪
Since Danny Cox became RAM House’s Director of Recovery Services, 10 people have been helped OFF THE STREETS and into treatment and recovery services.
This is what your support makes possible—meeting people where they are, building trust, and helping them take that next step toward a better life.
10 people. 10 new opportunities. And we’re just getting started.

Please help us keep this work going:

We’re grateful to be recognized at the Roanoke Regional Chamber’s 2026 Small Business Celebration & Awards Ceremony, and thankful to the Roanoke Regional Chamber for its continued support of our community.

At RAM House, the work is far from finished — and we still need your support.

As we move forward at the Jain Care Center, the need for meals, emergency assistance, recovery services, employment support, and daily care continues.
We need donors and supporters to help us keep serving our community.

Please consider making a gift today at www.raminc.org
