City of Roanoke, Virginia - Government

02/02/2026

Join us this Wednesday February 4th at 3rd Street Station and Melrose Plaza as we celebrate Transit Equity Day! Buses are free that day including the Smartway bus!

Transit is more than a ride — it connects people to:
💼 Jobs
🏫 Education
🏥 Healthcare
🛒 Food
❤️ Community

Roanoke also remembers Mrs. Margie Jumper, a local pioneer who challenged segregated transit years before Rosa Parks. Her courage helped pave the way for equity right here at home.

Let’s reflect on the past and work toward a transit system that serves all riders.

📍 Want to get involved? BRRAG meets the first Thursday of every month at 5:30 PM at the Gainsboro Library.

✨ A great city deserves great transit.
