We are keeping our substitute front desk volunteer hopping, and so we are in need of a second!

If you've ever wanted to volunteer at PCC occasionally but are not able to commit to a weekly schedule, this is the perfect fit.

Substitute/on-call greeters are responsible for answering phones, light filing, and other light clerical tasks (stuffing envelopes, folding newsletters, etc.), on an as-needed basis. We would call you when we have a need, and you volunteer based on your availability.

Welcome, Bari! 💙

PCC is excited to welcome Bari Elmore as a Pathways Assistant!

Bari first joined us through her internship with Virginia Western’s Human Services program, serving in Pathways for Youth from January through May. During that time, she quickly became part of the PCC family and gained firsthand experience supporting our students and learning more about the many ways PCC serves the community.

Bari shared that one of her favorite parts of working at PCC is seeing how staff come together through different programs to make a difference. She especially enjoys working with the kids, helping with daily activities, and getting to know each student’s personality along the way.

We are so grateful to have Bari continue her work with Pathways in a supportive, caring environment where students are encouraged, welcomed, and reminded that they matter.

Community support continues to make a meaningful impact at PCC! 💙

At the beginning of August, PCC received $1,857.88 in in-kind donations and 63.25 volunteer hours to help serve our neighbors through Emergency Services.

As the need in our community continues, we are grateful for every person, church, and group that helps us provide food, care, and support to families in Southeast Roanoke.

PCC is happy to share this community resource from Roanoke Public Libraries. Their Feed & Read program provides free meals for children ages 1-18 at several branches throughout Roanoke.

Check out the updated August-September schedule and share with families who may need it.

The needs in our food pantry are ever changing! We took a look at our inventory this week, and these are the things we need right now:

Larger size diapers (Sizes 5-7)
Baby Wipes
Hygiene Items
Cleaning Supplies
Canned Vegetables
Ramen Noodles
Beans (Canned and Dry)
Rice (Dry)

Mark your calendar!

PCC is looking ahead to Feed Community with the Rotary Club on August 14.

Events like this help bring people together around a shared purpose: supporting neighbors, strengthening food access, and making sure families in our community feel cared for.

More details will be shared soon, but we are grateful for community partners who continue to show up and serve alongside PCC.

We LOVE receiving school supply donations for our Pathways after-school enrichment program! ✏️📚

As students head back to school, we are also dreaming up a wish list of volunteers who could bring fun, hands-on learning opportunities to Pathways this year.

We would be tickled to find volunteers who could help with:

🏃 Fitness activities once a week
🧶 Crocheting or knitting for older students
🚗 Basic car maintenance lessons for high schoolers
🔨 Basic home maintenance skills for middle and high schoolers

Fitness and nutrition are part of our curriculum, and we would love to have someone help keep students active and engaged. This could be a great opportunity for a retired PE teacher or anyone who enjoys working with youth!

The car maintenance and home maintenance lessons would likely be one- or two-time opportunities in the spring.
